KeymasterHello,
I recently reformatted and I’ve noticed my browsing is extremely slow. I have internet Explorer 6.0, Nortons Internet Security2004
I went into Msconfig and disabled everything but my CCApp.. which is my nortons and IE is STill running slow. As if to make matters worse I sent an email through yahoo and it took 8 minutes to send it back to me . Usually its within seconds.
If anyone has any suggestions OTHER than get rid of IE6.0 I’d like to hear them. Btw, in case I forgot to mention it Everything is up to date Firewall, Anti-Virus, Windows I still can’t figure out what is going wrong .
Please Help
Justified

Member1.) Download a new browser FIRST ( I suggest firefox http://www.mozilla.org ) install it, then go to control panel and select add/remove windows components. select to uninstall internet explorer. It makes it so you can’t use it 😉
The other problem of course, is that norton sucks major donkey balls.

KeymasterI used this .. might be a temporary patch but for me it helped
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm # 79
apparently it changes something in the registry. It worked for me but maybe some of the more ” experienced ” users can tell you exactly what it does.
That link is an excellent link has many ” fixes” on it . I’ve tried quite a few myself.

I’m quoting this post to show you an example of how NOT to provide help.
1. The question was about IE6 and how to speed it up, she did not ask for an alternative browser.
2. Destructive information was offered. Removing a program as integral as IE is in windows would be an extreme last resort in my opinion.
3. When someone’s main reason for not using a program is that it “sucks donkey balls”, you must question the intentions. Try to back up your opinions with some sort of realistic reasoning. “Sucking Donkey Balls” does not prove that Norton is slowing down browsing speeds.
This is not meant to offend, but simply to point out why this was not a helpful answer. Let’s try to use common sense and answer the question as it is asked. Feel free to offer your opinions/recommendations, but remember to keep it reasonable. Thanks

KeymasterNeo,
Its probably that I have had this computer for about 3 years. And I have Nortons internet security 2004. To me that shouldn’t slow down my browsing because on my other computer which is an e-machine it has the same Nortons on it and it loads and boots up extremely fast. The only difference is it is a newer computer.
So I tried the link I gave you and it seemed to work for me. One day I hope to find out why it was so slow and to come up with a better fix or answer. I’ve also found Neo that as simple as it sounds the amount of windows I have open and my cookies not being cleaned out slow down my browsing quite a bit.. Probably not in your case but it helped in mine too.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

ParticipantI don’t think Neo has a problem.
The reason your browsing is slowing so much before clearing your cookies/temp files may have to do with the size of your hard drive. If your Hard Drive is starting to become full, your system can’t process information as quickly and will cause all programs, including web browsing to slow down.

MemberHmm..good job Shifter and Justified. you can do some more tweaking if you like at http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak153.aspx and http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak557.aspx . But be careful about changing the settings.
