My instant messages start getting slowed down right before my cable modem light goes off.. it can be a sign that your going to get disconnected by dial-up or by your cable modem.
May 20, 2004 at 12:35 am #45143Jorgey007Memberi’ve tried resetting my cable modem but it doesnt seem to work…like I have tried previous versions of aol and some send faster but then they freeze and it takes just as long…im def. pulling my hair out over this problem.
May 20, 2004 at 12:58 am #45149TropicalMemberDo you have an AOL Expression on your AOL? Those can slow your IM’s down at times.
May 20, 2004 at 3:48 pm #45154stp165Memberhey people, I think I found a fix. I had the same problem too, and it was happening on BOTH MSN (v6.2) and AIM (v5.5.3583). I found a post on a MSN forum and the fix worked for me, for both MSN and AIM.
Here’s the link to it: http://www.askmarvin.ca/forums/index.php?s=de9829dce2fa376c4eff35adb51d6555&showtopic=1569
Anyway, appears to be a problem with LSP (layered service provider). Looks like mine got corrupt somehow. Don’t ask me what LSP is or what it means b/c I don’t know haha. anyway, here’s a copy of the posting w/ instructions:
“Hi there. I had the exact same problem. It turned out to be a problem with my LSP(layered service provider). You could try this solution. Download X-cleaner at
http://www.xblock.com/download-freeware.shtml and make sure you CHECK the box that says “verify/fix LSP” I hope this works for you, it worked for me. Good Luck!!!!!!!!”hope it works for all of you guys. I’m back to normal so I can’t complain any. btw, a reboot might be required after running the fix.
May 20, 2004 at 9:47 pm #45155SparkElectroMemberYES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!! finally I was getting SICK of that lag, im keeping that program! I even made this screen name just to thank you!
May 21, 2004 at 11:10 am #45141f0rbezMemberSo was that the problem for the rest of you? The LSP is usually editted by spyware isnt it? Personally, I’ve had no problems at all connecting to AIM. I doubt that this is an intentional thing AOL has done. Maybe theres a large server load sometimes and it takes a few seconds for the IM to be sent thru.
May 21, 2004 at 4:03 pm #45153stp165Memberyou’re probably right, it is probably something that was f*ed up by spyware. I’ve had this problem for over 2 months now so I don’t think it’s a load issue with AOL, especially when everyone else I know at work doesn’t have this problem.
there’s normally a little lag the first IM that goes through, I’m assuming that’s b/c AIM is establishing the initial connection, but I was experience the problem on EVERY IM to everyone on my list. anyway, problem’s been fixed for over a day now and seems to be pretty stable.
May 21, 2004 at 8:22 pm #45147Jorgey007MemberOMG THANK YOU GUYS SOO MUCH! I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY NOW! I LOVE YOU GUYS! IM SO HAPPY IT WORKS FINALLY!:D
May 22, 2004 at 3:32 am #45132CharlesMemberI find it amazing that you need to clear your cache to login to AIM and avoid it acting slow. Hmm…probably the advertisements consume ungodly amounts of bandwidth…that wouldn’t be surprising.
June 14, 2004 at 4:20 am #45156bskillz85MemberYES!!! WORKS NOW THANKS ALOT. 😀
July 7, 2004 at 2:00 pm #45131Jeff HesterKeymasterThank god I dont have any delay when sending an IN with aim………
It might be a fraction of a sec. slower than the older versions of AIM,but I think its just because of the builds being more technical than the older versions……..
The older version of aim I used for months (5.2.3277) Had no delay what so ever………
I like 5.5.3590 quite a bit 🙂
August 2, 2004 at 5:46 am #45157agirl5ParticipantThank you so much!! The slow instant messaging was killing me because I type very fast and it was hard to have conversations with that 4 second delay. You guys saved my life! Agains, thanks a million!!

What problem are you referring to? If it is the slow IMing then yes, it is the same problem.
August 23, 2004 at 1:38 am #45160badogg88MemberWell, I have a linksys router, and every 3-5 minutes or so, I get bumped off of AIM. It’s not really that it’s slow, it just freezes up and then kicks me off. Does anyone know why? It’s frustrating! 😡
