I was wondering why the smiley codes have to be copy/pasted into the IM & you can’t just type them? At least that’s what I find. Not really a big deal, but I’m curious. Sorry if this has been discussed and yes I searched, but I did not find the question asked before. I just read something about AIM has HTML disabled. That doesn’t make sense to me cause I’m copying HTML, so it shouldn’t make a difference to just type it, should it?
It just has to do with the way AIM handles HTML code, the smiley codes are just font tags for different smiley fonts. If you type in HTML code, it actually sends it as text, but if you copy in HTML code it tries to render the HTML. Thats just the way AIM was designed I guess.
Damn, that’s strange. Thanks though. It was just one of those things that was bugging me.
i duno about you guys but it works fine for me when i type in 🙂 or the other smiley codes. it doesnt show 🙂 it actually shows the smiling smiley.

The “regular” smiley codes work fine. What bluebugguy is talking about are the extended smiley codes, like this:
🙂
This works great if you cut-and-paste it into your chat window, or if you put it in your profile. But it won’t work if you type it in.
It’s strange, too, because it used to work, but somewhere along the line they changed AIM so you couldn’t type them in.
oooooooooooooooo ok yeha my bad..yeah that does suck.
I use Smilees, which lets me choose different smiley sets and click on them from the smiley list.
