If you don’t have push email, or maybe any email on your mobile phone, the GSN SMS Notifier can help you stay in touch. GSN SMS Notifier is a free program that alerts you via SMS whenever you receive new emails.
It does this using either ICQ or Skype, so you’ve got to have an account on one of those systems, and will work with Gmail and any POP3 email account. Note that using ICQ, SMS messages are free, but if you choose Skype, you’ll need (and use) Skype credits to get your notifications. Since ICQ is free, I’d recommend using that route, even it if you only use it for this.
You can configure the program to control what number to send the SMS messages to, how often to check your email, and what mechanism to send (ICQ or Skype).
If you use Gmail like me, GSN will let you configure rules using Gmail labels, giving you further flexibility.
With more and more people getting email on their mobile devices, I’m not sure GSN has much of a future, but for those of you with older phones or without a data plan, this can at least notify you when you get that urgent email from Nigeria.
GSN SMS Notifier requires Windows XP or Vista, and the Microsoft .net Framework 2.0.
