MemberThe new Snap link preview popup windows are nifty, I think it’s good that we can peek and see where a link is pointing without visiting it.
However, why don’t they work in posts and most signatures? They certainly work for me in my own signature, so I propose that we add them everywhere. (Possibly make it an option in the user’s control panel?)

ParticipantI don’t think they work with the URL redirect thing we have now. Also, does Jeff have internal links enabled?
It’s a pretty neat tool, I use it on my website!

ParticipantI find it irritating — I wish we had an option to turn it off!

You can. Hover over a link with a Snap Preview, go to the top right corner of it, hit options, then click the “Bubble Opt Out” option for either “This Site or All Sites”.
Hope that helps.

KeymasterNo way I’ll enable internal links — there are so many that the thing would be popping all over the place. The way it is now, it gives you a clue that the link actually leaves BBB (except for the signatures, which is due to the redirect thing).

MemberHm… am I missing something? It looks as though it’s disabled now… any time I hover over a link it doesn’t work. Or is this due to the redirect-URL-thing we have in place… then how come it was there before? I’m confused.

If it has the redirect on it, it won’t work. What’s odd is sometimes the redirect is there for me, and othertimes… it’s not.

KeymasterThis is very weird. I’m not sure what controls the redirects. I’m not turning them on or off or changing any of the settings.

MemberMaybe we should disable them altogether, I mean… I’d rather have the previews than some outgoing statistics (no offense, Jeff, If you use them (but I’ve never seen them)). And if they aren’t working right, well… yeah.

ParticipantI’ll vote for that. I don’t use them (and never will), I find them very annoying.. and at first I though it was actually an advertising promotion (like on some sites *ahem Neowin) highlight words that redirect you to another website (pay per click ..).
MAYBE a public vote?

MemberOh, Det, you misunderstand… I meant to disable the link redirects on BBB and keep the snap link previews, not the other way around. Why are you against them, you can shut them off if you don’t like them so much?

Keymasterdetn8r, spike — you guys do realize that you’re talking about two different things, right?
Spike is talking about disabling the “/redirect-to/” links, which has nothing to do with the Snap previews.
Detn8r is talking about disabling the Snap previews (which users can already do on an individual basis).
Personally, I like them. They don’t bring any revenue to the site, but I think they’re kinda neat. But if a lot of people find them annoying, I’d turn them off.

MemberI’d like them (the link previews)… if they worked.

ParticipantIt didn’t work when I tried to disable them. Plus, if I DID however hover over it, 75% of the time I was told I had to what in queue in order to even see it.
What a bastard! -_-

You do realize litterally 10 seconds after you get that, the preview is ready? It just means that site is not in their system yet, and the process to make a preview is very quick.
