Just checked this out while looking at another post, but the SnapLinkAds for me are talking about Viagra and Viagra for Women and Generic Viagra. Um, if I saw that as a user I’d not want to have to deal with that, and if I was young(ish) and a parent walked in while that ad was up, well things wouldn’t go well.
I thought I had captured the screen to show you but I guess I accidentally hit Insert instead of Print Screen.
October 8, 2009 at 12:05 am #175911Doris KenneyParticipantI was able to grab a shot of it.
October 8, 2009 at 12:59 am #175909NessaParticipantI’ve never seen it and don’t see much of an issue with it as it doesn’t show any pictures or anything. A person would really have to be looking to spot it plus myspace and other places have worse ads with pictures (even those lose weight ad with pictures of girls in bikini’s are worse than the word Viagra).
Just my opinion.
October 8, 2009 at 1:01 am #175910PolarBearNPRParticipantEwww… enough already! Yeah – it’s just words, but as a parent who monitors what her kids are looking at, the words do jump out.
OTOH – if we’ve got ads for viagra here, what does that say about the *needs* of our clientele?
October 8, 2009 at 3:33 pm #175906detn8rParticipantI thought that ads like that pick up related things on the webpage to generate ads? Where is it picking things up for viagra?
October 8, 2009 at 3:52 pm #175912Doris KenneyParticipantIt doesn’t bother me personally.
Kids old enough to be using messenger programs and searching for sites related to the use of them have probably already seen far worse than a textual banner ad for Viagra.
October 9, 2009 at 12:25 am #175904Jeff HesterKeymasterPlease note the post that you see (saw?) that on, and give me the URL. I’ll dig into it. Yes, it’s supposedly contextual, but not always so well. That ad is (as I recall) served by ValueClick and I’ve had to block some of their advertisers from time to time (though mostly for animated/noisy ads or ads for junk with adware in it; i.e. SmileyCentral).
October 9, 2009 at 12:29 am #175913Doris KenneyParticipantI didn’t grab the screenshot from a particular post, I grabbed it from the Home page. Now there is only 1 Viagra Cost ad showing on it. I don’t know if it was showing up in posts or not.
edit: ROFL….Now I see it right under this post. Out of 8 textual links in the banner, I see 4 for Viagra
October 9, 2009 at 1:27 am #175907detn8rParticipantThis is what I see.. I don’t know why but all I get is government cheques, airbrushed bodies, Body Armour clothes … and viagara. Neat afternoon.

That makes sense, since we’ve used the words “viagra” and “sex” several times. :p

On the home page, NICE! I’ll see if I can can track down the advertiser and block them. It looks a tad sleazy.
October 9, 2009 at 6:16 pm #175905Jeff HesterKeymasterI made some tweaks and blocked Snapads entirely. Let me know if you see any other sleazy ads. 😉
October 9, 2009 at 8:02 pm #175908MrEggsaladParticipantUm…I still see them Jeff. :S
October 9, 2009 at 9:19 pm #175902Jeff HesterKeymasterOkay, I’ve blocked a few more, and removed some ads. It can take an hour for the changes to show up, so give it a little while. Hopefully it’ll be gone soon!
