MemberI got to see them at the ampitheater outside Milwaukee, WI on Saturday night and was totally amazed. I can’t even begin to explain how amazing the whole night was. The weather, crowd, sound, and energy was all there. They played for two hours or so for a sold out crowd (this show was sold out in ~6 minutes and I think there was about 35k to 40k people there).
The all played their guitars through Vox amps, which sounded amazing. And they even had a piano on stage. I think the highlite of the show was when they performed There There. The two guitarists had toms set up infront of their mics and were adding extra percussion to the song and it sounded awesome.
I’m sure some people from here at least went to the St. Louis show last night…
For a band I’ve been trying to see for ~10 years now, I wasn’t dissappointed. Normally I build things up so high in my mind that I’m let down, not the case with them.

MemberGreat review…. more details please, both personal and general, where did your mind wander? how was the ambience?, crowd control? did the ‘afterglow’ last thru the exit of the venue? how did the artists reach you personally. Were those tunes in your head 4 days after?

KeymasterI like Radiohead, but I’ve never heard anything about their concerts. I have a hard time even imagining what one of their concerts would be like… so much of their music is slow and almost ethereal.

ParticipantDid they play any early material? A few songs I would kill to hear live would be ‘Creep’, ‘The Bends’ (& almost anything else from that album), ‘Paranoid Android’, & ‘Karma Police’. I think ‘Paranoid Android’ would be intense, we used to play a cover of it in my old band and it was such a rush just playing it ourselves. When you get that familiar with a song, its always cool to see it played right live.

MemberThey didn’t play anything from Pablo Honey. Honestly, I think their “Creep” days are long gone. The only song from Pablo Honey I could hear them fitting in would be Blow Out since it’s more along the lines of their Bends material.
They played about four songs from The Bends. I was happy to get that much or anything at all since The Bends is my favorite release of theirs. The played about four songs from OK Computer–yes they played Karma Police and Paranoid Android.
Jeff–while some of their stuff is somewhat softer, they have a tendency to make it ultra-intense. At no point was I bored while watching them. In fact, I would be willing to bet that their earlier material up through OK Computer is more loud and rocking than not. But to go along with you, they have toned it down recently.
Their stage set up was cool as hell. They had these LED-style veritical lights behind the stage going the whole time. They also had vertically long video screens on either side of the stage and cameras all over the stage (they’ve been doing that for years, it’s really cool). Also, rather than just having video of them playing, there is some art involved via filters and effects. When they played Idioteque they had what looked to be an equivelant of the MILK DROP plug in that you can download for WinAmp.
The skinny guitarist who does most of the keys, chaos pad, etc… was totally going off the entire time.

KeymasterSlow geek that I am, I really didn’t start listening to them until OK Computer. I’ve checked out a few of their earlier songs but haven’t picked up any of the CDs. Did run across a cool cover of “Wish You Were Here” though.
