MemberHows it going everyone, i need your help guys, this is my first post. i got this problem with my MSN messnger (its the latest messenger verison), its screwed up. it was fine for a few days once i installed it, i also installed messenger plus! with it. everything worked fine for a few days. then this problem happened. i have asked other people using messenger and know has heard of this problem. Basically this it it…
* i turn on my computer and everything loads up fine.
* messenger loads up and sign in.
* all other startup things load up fine.
* every other program is screwed, i run it and i get nothing at all – i.e.: i press internet explorer button, the hourglass comes up and then noting. i can navigate directories and things and view photos using the default windows xp viewer. even my winamp dont work.
* after about 5 minutes everything works, all the programs i ran earlier now kick in and begin to run and then everyhting works fine.
* why is ther this 5 minute (seroius – it is literally 5 mins) delay before i can do any usefull things with my computer.
* i know it is not messenger plus! because the same problem persits even when i uninstall it (yes i do clean the registry to make sure its complteky gone)
* i know it is MSN messenger.has anyone heard of these symptoms before?

MemberI’ve had this problem before.
Goto Start—> Run —> msconfig
Check what is starting up with Windows. Some apps take a long time to load. Uncheck all the apps you really don’t need to load on startup.
Also goto services and deactivate the messenger service. You REALLY don’t need that for MSN messenger to work.
See if that helps.

ParticipantWhat makes you so sure its MSN Messenger? What troubleshooting have you done so far? Have you ran a virus scan recently (since this has been occurring)? How much RAM is installed on your XP system? Have you tried turning off MSN Messenger loading on Startup?

Memberi defintly know its MSN messenger as everything works fine when i uninstall it. i have enough ram (about 300mb) and with messenger uninstaled it takes about 5 seconds to load all startup software and services. does it have something to do with network settings as i have a network running. i notice that when the machine is on the network it takes an additional 30 seconds to load up all services and software. could this be realtes to MSN messenger? i have tried disabling all network services and it makes no difference, the problem is still there. i have done MAJOR trouble shooting such as disabling various startup items, cleaning out the registry, uninstalling and instaling numerous times. i know my computer is fine (spec wise) and there are no viruses (i have norton antivirus and its always uptodate and have done complete system scans).
i realy appreciate the help
thanks in advance
