Well, inspired in part by the Top10 Bands discussion and by an article on Newsvine titled Ten Songs You Must Hear Before You Die, I thought it would be an interesting topic to do here as well.
I’m going to shorten it up just a little though, since we have so many members. List five songs that you think everyone should hear before they die. Feel free to include your reasoning why, but try to keep each description to a few lines. Old, new, rock, hip-hop, show tunes, metal, emo, whatever. Five songs you think are essential to any audiophile.
1. Flyleaf – “Fully Alive”
Heartfelt lyrics about a girl who’s suffered so much that she appreciates the little things in life that other people might take for granted. It’s actually based on a true story — the wife of Trust Company’s lead singer, who had some sort of debilitating illness.2. Massive Attack – “Dissolved Girl”
One of my all-time favorite songs. Massive Attack is a British trip-hop group, very mellow and relaxing stuff. This song was featured in The Matrix as the song playing in Neo’s headphones when we first meet him. The lyrics (as with the rest of Massive Attack’s stuff) are a bit abstract, but it’s generally about a person in a relationship who isn’t sure what they’re getting out of it.3. Motion City Soundtrack – “LG Fuad”
Great song about wanting to live life to its fullest and know what living is all about. This band simply rocks out… if you ever have a chance to see them live, do it. note: song does contain the F-word, but not overly so. maybe once per verse (it’s in the title).4. Three Days Grace – “One X”
“Do you think that theres no one like you?”. “The life I think about is so much better than this / I never thought I’d be stuck in this mess.” Great song about knowing that no matter how bad you think your life is, you’re not alone, and there are others going through the same thing. Together you can get back up on your feet and live.5. Gary Jules – “Mad World”
Gary Jules’ cover of a song by Tears for Fears, featured in Donnie Darko as well as a commercial for the game Gears of War. The singer is discouraged by the madness of the world around him, where everyone is depressed and aimless, feeling insignificant.Maybe not the greatest list I could have come up with, but I think it works nicely. Your turn… go!

Bright Eyes – Bowl of Oranges
I really just think this is an uplifting song. It’s full of lines that just make you feel…awake. “Your eyes must do some raining if you’re ever going to grow”.
About just finding beauty and life in the world and becoming part of it.Just…read the lyrics. They’re great.

4. Three Days Grace – “One X”

Here’s my list:
1.) “Fully Alive” By Flyleaf
This song is very inspirational. Like Tom mentioned, the song is about a girl who has suffered so much that she appreciates the little things in life, no matter how small. This girl to me, is very stong, to go through so much and appreciate life still. Listen to these verses: “Fully Alive, more than most, ready to smile, and love life” “Fully alive, now she knows how to believe in futures”.2.) “One X” By Three Days Grace
This song’s video is amazing. It really draws out the meaning to the song if you watch it. Like Tom mentioned, it is letting all the heart-broken and those who suffer know they are not alone and they can make it in this world.3.) “Friends and Family” By Trik Turner
This song reveals what everone truly needs. Nothing fancy, just your friends and family. Listen closely to the story that deals with Family and aspects of Death within the lyrics.4.) “Everybody wake up (Our Finest Hour Arrives)” By Dave Matthews Band
This song is giving off a message to all people to “wake up” and realize all the corruption that occurs in society and the injustice. Listen in to these verses in the lyrics: “See the man with the bomb in his hand” “They build these walls ever higher and hide behind them…Seems an odd way to try and make things right” “ I Remember the words of the misguided fool…Do unto others as you’d have them do…Not an eye for an eye is the golden rule…Just leaves a room full of blind men”5.) “The Kill (Bury Me)” By 30 Seconds to Mars
No song has ever brought our so much emotion in me than this song. Just discovered this song, and it was an instant favorite. For the instruments and the lyrics. The main message Deals with realationships and finding your true self… Amazing song.Try to Keep this going, this is an interesting thread! 😉
