I had heard about Sonos for over a year, but it seemed like an expensive gimmick. Then I heard it. The sound is great. And I took the plunge and bought a Sonos Play:1 speaker.
I made the purchase based on the sound quality, but once I hooked it up and started using it, I was really hooked. Sonos speakers do not use bluetooth or audio cables. They work with your home wifi network. The Sonos app on your iPhone is your controller, and the beautiful thing is that that it’s not actually streaming through your phone. Because the Sonos speakers have a wifi connection, they communicate directly with whatever streaming services or sources you’re using.
I’ve got it hooked up with Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Prime Music, and Concert Vault. There are many more, but that’s plenty for me. If you want to play music, you can search and the app will search across all your configured services at the same time. The whole experience is really awesome.
I’ll be adding another Play:1 for the bedroom and at some point getting the Play:Bar for the TV. The bummer is that they don’t ship to Korea, so I’m going to have to wait until a trip to the States.
