HI,
My problem is spyware removel, I’d tried almost all of the famous spyware removel tools available online, but if I got traped once it continues until the reinstallation of OS. I’m also using updated antivirus, ZoneAlarm firewall. ZoneAlarm block 13 access attempts during last few ours but the files of Alexa the famous spyware keep downloading. ZoneAlarm’s security settings are configured to it’s highest leval. There is also my post about a JAVA Exlpoit it also continues. What should I do?
There is also a post from some other user in this forum about spyware.
https://bigblueball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30986Spyware is for me the biggest security problem online. I request all of you to please help me and users like me. I’m living in a devolping or almost underdevolp country of South Asia, here the net is too slow, bandwidth is too low, DSL, Cable I’ve no choice but the rusty dialup over a 56 k phone line and these spywares while downloading into my PC use a large part of my bandwidth.. I need the urgent help. There is also a suggestion and request that there should be a proper forum on BigBlueBall about spywares.
Kind Regards,June 24, 2005 at 1:13 pm #124901Jeff HesterKeymasterYour point is valid to say the least and I can certianly see where you are coming from. the best defence is offence and you are doing that with the software you mention – however, you get what you pay for.
Personally, I recommed spybot S&D as it has “teatimer” ( a manual request for change to the registry ) but others I’m sure have there own solutions.
This however is not my only form of defences regarding unwanted background installs. The web is full of solutions to almost ever problem. I guess you need to really sit down work out what you need and then start looking and trying different products – yes i know your on dialup and that makes it a little difficult.
Try the computer mags they usually have discounted or free products you can try and its on a disk, even better for you.
June 24, 2005 at 1:48 pm #124904amy_d_gParticipantOkay, I will tell you my strategy for staying spyware free. The programs I use (all free) are:
Spybot S&D
Adaware
Microsoft Antispyware
Spyware Blaster
Spyware GuardAntivirus (I use Norton Internet Security 2005, but ther are a few good free ones if you don’t have one, AVG Antivirus is one I used for a while.)
What browser do you use? Mozilla Firefox is much more resistant to spyware than IE, and is highly customizable as well. I have my cookie settings fairly restricted, to where it asks me every time a new site wants to set a cookie. It will remember the sites that are allowed/blocked, so I don’t find it to be much of a hassle, and prevents those annoying tracking cookies. I generally don’t use IE anymore except for a few sites that will not load in Firefox.
Another thing to remember is watch what you download. Many (if not most) free screensavers, IM add-ons (like Smiley Central) etc. and some free programs contain spyware. Another common place to pick up spyware is through sites that offer pirated software, serial numbers, and cracks for programs, and porn sites. Watch what you click on in e-mails too. If you don’t know the sender, don’t open any attachments.
If you are infected with a lot and can’t get it all removed, sometimes the best thing is a reinstall of the OS. With the programs I have running, doing weekly scans, I don’t have too many problems anymore.
June 25, 2005 at 3:33 am #124905AqeelParticipantWell thanks alot for replying, I’m trying my best to search different software products and trying them. Yesterday I’d run the antivirus scan and found a few more trojans and virus in temp folder. These are…
Anonmail Trojan/Spammer
Haktek Trojan/Spammer
Spy.keycopy.A trojan
Win32/Spoofer.VB.B virus
Win32/DoS.WINSKiller tojan
VirTools.Win32/Ainder.F virus
Win32.Netbus.20.B trojan
Spy.KeyTrap tojanAny kind of further help in removing these specific files.
June 25, 2005 at 3:40 pm #124902Jeff HesterKeymastermost usually will be deleted if they are in in temp files. delete temp files and run scan again, failing that most of the “commons” load in MICROSOFTWindowsrun in HKEY in the registry but i wouldn’t go in there unless you know what ya doing. Your antivirus software ( if updated) with generally quarentine these types – and then give you the option to delete.
You can also go down the path as I have and also get a trojan defence to back up your antivirus. but searching eg: symantec will generally yeild results on removal of said.
June 25, 2005 at 5:22 pm #124903TigerbladeParticipantageel, do you do any kind of downloading (through file-sharing networks, etc) at all? I know you said you’re on a slow connection, but if you do download files on any kind of regular basis, that can be a major problem and a huge gateway for the rest of these problems.
you said if you reinstall your OS (which operating system are you using, by the way) it’s ok for a while? Do you have an idea of about when the problems begin again after reinstalling? After a fresh format/install of your OS, the first things i’d install are your firewall (ZoneAlarm is a good product, but you may want to look into getting a professional grade firewall if ZA isn’t working for you) configured to pretty strict settings, a heavy-duty virus scanner (which scanner are you using now?), and the variety of other such anti-spyware/adware programs available such as Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc.
be extremely careful which sites you visit when online. as far as i know, even though i’m no expert on viruses and such, i dont think you can get viruses just by going online. if you download files, or accept files from others, or go to sites that may have malicious code on them, then you become infinitely more vulnerable.June 26, 2005 at 2:17 am #124906AqeelParticipantI’m using tow Operrating Systems running on different partitions, WIN 98 & Windows XP Pro, That’s XP which I uses while online other security softwares NOD32 Antivirus, ZoneAlaram Fire wall, Ad-Aware SE, AdwareAway, AdSUbtract, Spybotsd, Trojen Remover, Xclean Micro, XP Anitspy. I’m also using two browsers IE & Firefox.
Now I’d thought of trying the following steps.1. Format both of the OS 98 & XP & then reinstall them.
2. As Tiger said first of all installing the fire wall then antivirus.
3. Trying to study then that what’s really causing the problem.Do you agrees?
