Hey all,
recently started developing a new IM client to enter this already large market.
It supports AIM, ICQ, Yahoo! IM, MSN, GTalk and its own protocol, along with fast messaging servers and great features. I’d be happy to hear about feature requests too.Feel free to try it: srevspace.com

August 15, 2007 at 10:21 pm #163410winsrevMemberwell… the new MSN is 18.5 MBs. I perfer it to be quality, theres high detailed graphics and some interesting features. Feel free to download, the other interesting part is that the server does most of the work for the client.
October 15, 2007 at 1:26 am #163407cowlickMemberI downloaded your client and I’m confused…
Exactly what is it that lets you repackage an LGPL-licensed open source product without any attribution?

You used high quality graphics for the UI as justification for the large size, so I figured you had at least done something (you know, other than remove all references to the original product) but alas, no… the second I installed & launched Spark I was greeted with the exact same UI.
I don’t have anything against you, it just annoys me when people and/or companies utilize open source software in their product(s) without following the license while assuming they will never be noticed. I would suggest a search for CherryOS before you to continue distributing your product without attribution.
October 15, 2007 at 5:36 pm #163405Jeff HesterKeymasterNice catch, cowlick. Sounds like the new product “they” have been developing doesn’t require much of a development team. But maybe should expand their legal team. 😉
October 17, 2007 at 6:45 am #163411winsrevMemberWe thank you for noticing this and right now are correcting the issue, it appears that it was a compiler issue and a new version should be released very shortly with the correct license and documentation.
The problem has now been fixed.
October 22, 2007 at 8:35 pm #163408cowlickMemberReally? As a programmer I have never seen a compiler that simply left out certain text and/or files on its own, let alone one that possesses the ability to decide if it should.
FYI: those 3 text files you included in the new installer still leave you in violation of the license (maybe you should actually read it?… just a thought.)
I have also reverted your Wikipedia entry.
October 24, 2007 at 12:00 am #163412winsrevMemberWell, critizing my skills isn’t getting you anywhere let alone anyone else, and yet, as far as i know, i have included sufficent information, what exactly am i supposed to include here?
October 24, 2007 at 1:45 am #163406DavidParticipantThe LGPL requires that you also distribute the source code with the application. Open sourced software should stay that way, not be wrapped up in closed source stuff. (As per how the license reads, not just my opinion)
October 24, 2007 at 10:27 am #163413winsrevMemberbut then that will make all the files about 3x bigger, i thought that i only had to provide how to get the source code not the actual source code.

Honestly I’m surprised you chose a Java based project considering the development tools aren’t as straight forward as some of the other open source projects you could have ripped off.

Clarification: That isn’t the reason I pointed this out, I’m just trying to say you need to re-read the LGPL again.

October 27, 2007 at 5:11 pm #163414winsrevMemberDont worry, i’m contacting Igniterealtime about the situation, so, don’t concern yourself.
