I’ve looked through the options but cannot find how to have YIM launch MINIMIZED (instead of having the list pop-up everytime I reboot my PC). How can I set it so that it starts up minimized? MSN does, but can’t find an option for YIM.
There is not anyway for it. You can tho go into your preferences and set it to not automatically start when you start your PC. You can then after connecting to the net just click the Icon to start Yahoo! Messenger. In addition you can click the little arrows beside a group list on your Yahoo! friends list and it wont start up showing the people in that group weither they are online or offline. Then when you do want to see whos online in that group just click the little arrow and they will show.
The same thing really bugs me, there has to be a command we can enter into the registry to get the program to start minimized.
I only use it for email notification and it sucks to have a window I don’t wont every time windows starts.
No, there is no registry setting to start minimized.
ive looked
If all you’re using Y!M for is the email notifications, you could just install Trillian and use its Yahoo! Mail Notifications and it can start minimized. See http://www.trillian.cc/ for downloads.
Thats a great link but it still does not address the fact that Yahoo has not designed this properly. AIM and MSN will start minimized in the taskbar with no user intervention. I expected better from the sixth version of this product. 🙁
