Does anyone know where the file is to customize what programs start up when Windows does?
Thanks! 🙂
April 24, 2005 at 7:55 pm #120251TigerbladeParticipantif you’re talking about what services start with windows, then go to ‘Start > Run’ and type in services.msc. I recommend checking BlackViper to see what you can safely disable (although… as i check it now, it seems to be “under construction”).
otherwise, there’s also MSConfig – ‘Start > Run’ and type in msconfig, then go to the startup tab. be careful what you uncheck in there though. warning: DO NOT use msconfig to disable services (via the services tab…)!! use services.msc to do that.

Each program should have their preferences as if you want them to “automatically start up” when you start windows. And if you don’t want them to start up, uncheck that option.April 26, 2005 at 2:38 pm #120253neo_ny_23MemberEasiest way is the way Tigerblade said here.
Click “Start”, then go to “Run” and type “msconfig” and then a GUI application pops up. There look for “Start up” which should be towards the right hand side. In start up, look for MSN Messenger and uncheck it (unchecking means it wont start up when your computer starts and checking means your software will start up everytime your computer boots. ) There you can add AIM and change the softwares’ automatic start up any way you want..Hope this helps.
