MemberIn Yahoo Messenger, you can create custom status messages, which can be selected by clicking the drop down menu when you change your status in Yahoo Messenger.
Hopefully that bit is clear.
Anyway, I was wondering, is there a way to delete these status messages? If so, how?
Thanks for your help. Just for the record, I am running Yahoo Messenger version 6.0.1750 and Windows XP Professional SP1. I don’t think any other system information is required.

ParticipantOnly way I know of is to go into the registry and delete them manually… Go to HKEY_Current_User/Software/Yahoo!/Pager/Profiles/(Your user name)/Custom Msgs… Delete any of them you want to, just don’t delete the first one, (Default)
It only stores 5 custom messages (for me anyway, I’m on Windows 98), so if you don’t want to go through all that, you shouldn’t have to worry about a big list….

MemberWhy may I ask would you want to delete them anyway? You can simple make a new status to clear the old.
Or if you really must, do what Amy said. Of course, if you don’t know how to access the registry go to Start/Run and type regedit, then navigate where Amy said. Good luck

No you can’t, when you create a new status message, it stores them in the list when you click the dropdown menu. I want to delete them because the list is getting too long, I just want to keep things tidy.
Amy, thanks for the advice, it worked. 🙂
I have more than 5 status messages though. Some of them I never use anymore, thats why I wanted to delete them.
Thanks.

MemberUsually, only a few of mine save and the older ones are deleted. What I do when I want to save some and not other…is put those statuses I want to keep as my status one after the other…then I make up different ones and the old ones at the top of the list are gone. Another thing that happened to me accidently one time, is that I completley uninstalled messenger and then reinstalled it… I lost ALL of my old custom statuses, but I also lost all of my old settings. But it’s something to try if they really bother you a lot.

MemberNah, they don’t bother me that much, I just wanted to keep the list tidy. Its sorted now anyway, so thanks everyone for your help.
Amy’s method worked. Cheers 😉

KeymasterI’ve been searching for new programs that delete custom messages and so far the ones I’ve found delete the message but a face remains with just a blank next to them. I’m on yahoo messenger beta so that may be the cause. Anyway hasn’t anybody released or made any new software that can delete these messages effectively? I hate having to go through the whole registry thing. It’d be cool if you could do it simply with a little program.

MemberMostly people like to remove these status messages, because there are programs out there that when you run them, they automatically change your status message to the next one in line on your status message list. These status messages continusouly change as the program runs. So if you have cleared the message, no new status will appear.

MemberI can – but prefer not to – edit registry directly.
I know of 3 programs that can change YM Status messages.- MessyStuff, here: http://www.carbonize.co.uk/Yahoo/programs.php (I’ve never tried this one… just saw a link to it in BBB somewhere).
- X-Setup Pro, here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4083.html (this does the job well, but also can do a zillion other things too – Shareware, I think).
- EliteStatus, here: http://programmingsource.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=14&POSTNUKESID=afec299992292115881855910bf08ae9 (I recommend this one – totally simple, just 14k, works perfectly. :))

MemberIf you want to actually get rid of the spots for the messages, I suppose you could simply delete the values of them. I.E. Start/Run type regedit then navigate to
HKEY_Current_User/Software/Yahoo!/Pager/Profiles/(Your user name)/Custom Msgs
and on the right you’ll see
1
1_DND (that’d be funny if the DND stood for Do Not Delete. I think it’s actually for Do Not Disturb)
2
2_DND
ECT…So keep 1, and delete all the rest and then you can only have one. (I haven’t tried this myself because I don’t want to get rid of my other statuses, but if you do, I’m not liable for anything that happens! lol)
If you mean you want to delete what’s in them, simply double click the value, like 1 for me will show in a messagebox = “Y!Amp M6 – http://www.EliteNick.com/yampm6.php“
I can just erase it, but yes, it will then have a smiley with nothing next to it as a status if you do it that way. Hope that helped.

I have more than 5 status messages though. Some of them I never use anymore, thats why I wanted to delete them. …? I’m very puzzled. I’ve never had more than 5 (custom ones) at once ANYWHERE in my YM, going back years. When I have 5 and enter a new one, it always REPLACES one of the original 5.What have you got that I’m missing out on, Martin ? 😉

MemberSince I upgraded to newer versions of Yahoo Messenger (it’s been a while since I actually posted this thread), it no longer happened. So y’know…I didn’t have anything special installed.
