MemberHello –
I use Gaim to access my AIM account. I’m wondering how I appear to others when I set “invisible” vs “away” vs “blocked”.I added myself to my buddy list, and I just appear as “away” for all three options listed above. I’m not sure if something isn’t working, or if it doesn’t work when you block yourself, or what…
I thought when you were “invisible” you should appear offline, rather than away.Other questions-
when invisible, can others still IM you?
can you IM a blocked person?
what msg does a blocked person receive if they try to IM you?
If you don’t have it set to mark as “away” after being idle for 5 minutes, will you eventually appear as “idle” and when will that happen?March 15, 2006 at 11:52 pm #140174RU Still Down
Memberwhen your screenname’s status is set to invisible on Gaim2.0beta2 (the newest official release) others will not see you online in their buddy lists. Gaim doesn’t show your screenname offline to you because that would be stupid. Others can IM you and you can IM them. Others can request your buddy info and see your online status. You are not able to IM a blocked person. If a person is blocked, they will not be able to IM you or see you online.
Gaim2.0beta2 (and other versions of Gaim) come with the I’dle Mak’er Plugin. IT allows you to fake your Idle time. To enable it: Tools>> Plugins>> check I’dle Mak’er checkbox. To set your fake idle time: Tools>> I’dle Mak’er>> Set Account Idle Time. Gaim2.0beta2 Idle Options are different than other versions. The old show away when idle 5min (on Gaim) can be compared to the AIM option “when i’m idle respond with…”
download the new Gaim2.0beta2: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=235&package_id=253&release_id=387865
make sure you get the right file for your operating system. (Gaim2.0beta2 installer for 32-bit Windows)March 16, 2006 at 1:17 am #140175operaflute
MemberThanks! I too, thought it’d be silly to see yourself offline, but I thought it odd that it would mark myself “away” when I clicked “invisible.”
I’m currently using 1.5.0 – I’ll wait until they’re done testing the beta and they release the official 2.0 before downloading that. -
