MemberHi all, still haven’t resolved the issue of no audio in msn messenger. I’ve been reading the posts on this forum, and wonder if there isn’t any other way around the issue, other than uninstalling messenger 6.1, reinstalling 5.0, removing the dll file, blah blah. I’ve checked microsoft newsgroups and they have no clue, not as of yesterday as far as I could see. Oh I have zonealarm free edition on my comp, windows xp, and msn version 7.02. I do have allow checked for msn messenger in zonealarm(trusted server, trusted internet).Access is checked, also internet. I’m afraid to tinker with settings with which I have no idea what they are, what they’re for, etc. I panic rather quickly, and I’m better off just leaving things alone. But I would like to talk with my friend in Australia. My audio tuning wizard works. Oh, in microsoft newsgroups, someone suggested using Yahoo messenger. So if my friend and I cannot connect with msn messenger, we’ll try that.

Membersorry, I clicked new topic instead of reply. I have no audio in my msn messenger, and I had posted earlier few weeks back under my name, frog_foot. My friend and I want to talk, and I sent her the link to messenger 6.1. She has 6. I have 6.1 I have xp, she has win98. As per my earlier post tonight, I’ve read in this forum that to do that, uninstall 6.1(or 6 as it may be) install 5.0, then remove that dll file. Wondered if anyone had figured out a work around that problem? And microsoft newsgroups are like doh! as far as solutions. One poster there suggested yahoo messenger instead. I’ll try that as last resort. Notice how on 6.1 msn messenger page no mention of a fix for this problem? Maybe they’ll have a clue when Service Pack 2 comes out next year:confused: Oh, and we both ran our audio tuning wizards, and they both work. Thanks for any suggestions, other than removing, installing and doing away with that dll file in question. I’m not comfortable enough yet(still new to comp) to tinker with settings.:(

Memberif audio doesn’t work, there’s always the possibility that either of you are just on a connection that isn’t deemed fast enough by MSN Messenger. If you can let us know what both of your connections are, someone can tell you whether or not the problem might lie there 🙂

Membersorry again, i’ll get it straight one of these days, to include most/all info. I have cable connection with this xp. my friend has dial up with their win98. does that mean we wouldn’t be able to connect? I didn’t think it made any difference, as long as both parties had same type of messenger. Same version I mean.

Memberif she’s on dial-up and has other programs running that consume bandwidth, it’s quite possible that MSN Messenger says there’s not enough for both of you to have voice turned on. Try it with only one of you having voice on. If that works, you can be almost certain the problem lies with her connection/bandwidth.
Also, you could try turning on voice chat one at a time, first her than you, and first you than her. Sometimes that makes a difference too, though I doubt it’ll help.
