Hi, recently, my friend signed off, but I was still able to see him on my buddy list. I was “talking” to him for a good 5 minutes before I realized that he was really offline (he didn’t reply, and I logged on with another screen name and saw that he was indeed offline).
My question is if this is normal? When I log off and on again, he’s still on my buddy list as active. Even the time online increases.
He’s using aol, and I’m using aim.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

He should first disconnect from AIM, and then from the Internet if he wants this to stop happening.

I know that she has signed off because she has called me afterward (she only has one phone line and uses dial-up)… yet her screen name is still on my buddy list. Maybe it’s just a screw-up with AOL?

yea there is a trick like that and it does work..i’ve tried it. U directly connect w/ your buddy, then u sign off of AIM and your IM session is still active and u don’t show up on their list. so i dunt think that trick is being done, considering the person is still on the list…this trick dosen’t show the person being online.

June 12, 2003 at 11:58 pm #62467DavidParticipantWhat’s your OS?
How fast is your processor?
Do you have a ton of crap bogging down the system?
How much RAM do you have?June 13, 2003 at 1:00 am #62472JohnsonMemberI have this same problem, I have aol on dial up, and I use aim, my friend has both my ids added on her aim, and my aol name will sign off, but my aim will sit there for a minute or two, i am signed offline or so it seems, but the aol icon still shows me as being logged in, signing out/closing aim b4 you sign offline would fix the problem.
June 13, 2003 at 2:45 am #62468AdamJ1440ParticipantChances are with AOL’s WAOL program that runs in the background (and takes space and such) that it took a while for him to log off. It may have been your computer also, if you comp is slow, that may have been the problem
June 13, 2003 at 3:06 am #62464magistykMemberIt also could have been that when he tried exiting, AOL was updating itself.
June 13, 2003 at 5:40 am #62471JohnsonMemberMy problem isn’t with my aol s/n showing as online when i log off, it’s my aim s/n, it’s not the aol updates, my computer isn’t slow, i can stay online all day, an do w/e an it never freezes up, but i do notice when i sign offline it hesitates almost like it’s wanting to freeze up but never does. It’s not really a big deal for me, if i wasn’t lazy would just sign out every time, but it’s something aol needs to prolly look at. Really odd, somehow aim stays connected momentarily, for maybe 5 seconds on my end not sure how long for other people but my one friend would get annoyed, an she figured out what was happening, an told me about it one time, said i would show as online for a minute or so.
