My gf was on yahoo messenger and some person thought they would be priviledged enough to view my gf’s webcam. When she told him to eff off he started to use the rofl face and said i’m tracing your IP. Somehow after about 5 minutes he signed on under her name and she was booted. when we tried to sign back on it said screen name on another computer. There were no trojans on the computer, (i use eanthology) and I have 3 different firewalls being i’m on broadband, so i’d like to know how he was able to boot her off and what I can do to prevent it. She never gave out the password, he was just able to boot her off. Any help would be of great interest to me.

Actually Alleycat, it doesn’t appear as though he/she was booted in the common problematic way (not to mention the topic you refered him to is from 2002!), but instead someone has gained access to the account and simply logged on which in effect “booted” them off their ID.
My suggestion is to change your password and make sure (as you said you’ve done) you are trojan/keylogger free on your system.
Alright I read that forum but it doesn’t say anything on how someone was able to boot me and change my password at the same time. What i’m wondering is if anyone knows what kind of program this person used so that imight be able to counter it upon another problem in the future. I would also love to avenge this wrong. 😎

What they used was a Yahoo Account cracker. Best advice I can give you is if you can still log into your account info
1. Change the password, and don’t use any easy passwords such as name, bday, anything like that. Example: most my passwords are kinda like this

2: If someone has cracked that account id also change change any other account info such as the zipcode and suchYour gf was not booted at all. She was signed off because someone signed onto her name from a different machine.
As untamed said it looks like her account was cracked…. The simplest solution for this would be to use yahoo’s lost password recovery… Just click on yahoo’s forgot password and answer the questions and they will send u a new pass word to the alternate e-mail account that you specified when you signed in.
The best prevention for this kind of thing as untamed said is to have a long password with a mix of upper case lower case and numbers in itHi there, I would just like to add that I have now had two of my yahoo accounts “cracked”, and the password has been changed for them. I have tried to request a new password but after adding all the correct (and yes it is as one account was only five days old!) was told that the information was invalid and I needed to enter the correct information before I could continue. I have run spybot, adaware and anti virus software and have a zonealarm, so I am at a loss as to how to prevent them from hacking me every time I create a new ID. So any info that you might have found would be a huge help to me..cheers
The best thing you can do is have a complex pass word include lower case, upper case alphabets and numbers make sure it is longer than 16 letters and numbers after that any addition of letters or numbers makes it exponentially tougher to crack. Last I heard if you had a persons pass word it is possible to change your secret question I am not sure if yahoo has changed that yet. So the best you can do is have a complex pass word so that it makes it VERY tough to crack.
