MemberHi I’m new in here but I was hoping someone could help me. The other day I logged into my computer and my yahoo messenger usually automatically starts but that time it said invalid yahoo ID, so I tried logging in myself and here It wouldn’t let me, now I can’t check my email and I contacted yahoo and asked if they could help but they said to try to get back in using my birthdate and stuff but its all different and it says my birthdate doesn’t match my account info. I can’t get in:crying: Can someone help or have any advice on how to get it back?

MemberThere is not much you can do if you have forgotten the details that you used to make the account.

MemberSo basically I’m out of luck huh?:crying: I contacted yahoo but they can’t do anything cause my birthdate doesn’t match my account info. But I swear it was my real birthdate, I’ve had it for years now:( and some how it doesn’t match. I am so frustrated with yahoo, I wish they could at least delete my account, I read somewhere that people can get your information and make accounts and make loans and order stuff in your name…………OMG! how worrisome. Anyone have any advice?

ParticipantEasy now! Nobody can make loans or order anything with simply your Yahoo! ID. There is nothing of use in it besides your name, location and birthdate (which apparently isn’t correct anyway). Good luck getting anywhere but to your city with that.
You can’t really blame Yahoo for this one though. They need to verify that it is indeed your account, and they can’t do that if you don’t know your sign up details. Imagine if all you had to do was email Yahoo to get someones account deleted! Yahoo is abused enough as it is!
So unfortunately, if you can’t convince Yahoo that it was in fact your account, the best thing to do is create a new one, write down or save your sign-up details in a secure place and warn your previous contacts about your stolen account so that the violater does not pose as you with your old account and do them any harm.
Oh and of course, create a better secure password !

MemberHello, I’m also new here and I’ve been seeking help everywhere. I’m getting to the point of depression about Yahoo Account Insecurity. the thing is you can really blame yahoo because only my b-date was blanked out when accessing account info. All the other ones I can see, access and change with a password. How do they suppose to get us to put in our real information when it is so insecure. without our real info, we can’t verify who we are. It’s really stupid . The stupid thing I did was sign up with yahoo when they started . They were good when they offer more space than hotmail and did not delete everything if I don’t log in for days. So I started to use it as a backup to my main school account … back then school’s webmail keep deleting your mail if you don’t download it into your POP3 email client. Sighh so I have soooo much important info in there.I wish I can join somebody for a class action lawsuit against Yahoo’s customer disservice. This is not right.

Is it a disservice to try to keep others from taking over your account via Yahoo! by giving them your information? Is it a disservice to give people FREE e-mail? If you know people abuse Yahoo! and steal accounts you are going into it fully aware. It’s not right that people STEAL Yahoo! information, that’s completely true…it’s sick, stupid and wrong. Unfortunately if you did not give real, accurate information (which by the way, violates their TOS) and you did not record the information you put down…the problem falls upon you. Maybe instead of going after Yahoo! you should go after the morons who hack and steal accounts because they think it’s “Cool” or “fun”

Couldn’t agree more with you Oreo you are 100% right :)plus the security of a computer depends on each person and like most people think that a computer is just to have fun on the net without thinking of any kind of risk until something happens.

MemberHi, I understand Yahoo’s side too. It’s just I wish they write something else to make me feel like I’m talking to a real person instead of the same cut and paste over and over again.
I had my account created in 1998. Back then there was no secret question and answer. Yahoo was meant to be anonymous. So I did not put my real info. But as the years went on I relied on it more when my school’s webmail was inadequate. Their Terms of Service back then was different. I did a transaction with a Yahoo merchant and somehow all my real info was added. I know yahoo has a record of that. When I saw I keep getting spams with my real name everything in it I panicked and changed it. I did put in my real birthdate though because that was the only that was blocked out . I also wrote down my secret question and answer but I moved and I don’t know where I put it . I know you guys are sick of people keep having these problems and have no way to verify whether they’re real or not but there must be alternative methods to verify this and to insure that customers put in their real info cuz if they don’t trust yahoo how can they put in their real info. The info is so easily accessible and can be change by the hacker to prevent you from requesting a new password. I am not going after yahoo but I feel so helpless I just wish there is a thing I can do.

When i look at my account information it only shows that i can change the zip code or security question but “birthdate is on file,” so it can’t be accessed…..is there a way to change it?

Perhaps not. This is why Yahoo uses your birth date as a means of account security. If you think about it, anyone who steals your password, changes it would obviously try and change any settings via your mail options so you cannot get it back. If you can’t change your birth date (as long as you entered it correctly, or remember the date you lied about) then props to you. If not, then you’re SOL.And it is possible that you typed your birth date wrong upon registration, or gave them the wrong date (mixing up month with date).
It is very frustrating and annoying and I apologize for your inconvenience.

MemberWell I used all my real information:( I gave my real birthdate and I do remember my secret password thingy, it’s jus for some odd reason, none of it now matches my account. I guess if some hacker did take it, I really can’t do anything about it. I spose I don’t blame yahoo, but I wish they could be of a little more help
March 25, 2005 at 3:32 pm #112987nax
MemberThat is the thing… how can you verify that Yahoo’s database is not corrupted or has not been compromised especially for old users. It’s frustrating because you don;t even know if the people on the other side is doing actual work checking/ investigating for you or not and each email takes a day and a half to respond. And why is the account info so insecure??? I was getting spammed like crazy and those emails contained my actual address and name. That’s why I removed them . THe hacker also just need your password to change the password and other personal info. It’s stupid that yahoo asks for the password again when you try changing a password because there’s no point if you already know the old password. That’s a 1 step process to changing password. Why can’t my secret question/answer be asked in addition in order to cahnge the password or even my birthdate that’s on file ??? That’s Yahoo negligence !!! I know a lot of you defend Yahoo but Yahoo is also partially liable . And the free service that Yahoo gives ? Before, it was really good when I had POP access but no more . Yahoo also gets plenty of money from other services. Consider the free email service as a marketing ploy. Nothing is free in this world anyway.
Tiger Lily I so understand what you mean. I even wrote in my email if an actual person is reading this please reply to me yes but it was the same cut and paste again. I hope you and I can get our accounts back. I’ve already went after the hacker by reporting to the IFCCFBI and local authorities. I’ve also reported to the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General’s office. I even filed a complaint with Truste.org but it wasn’t under their jurisdiction. Years of abuse by malicious hackers only make it harder for legitimate users and Yahoo tolerated it. It shouldn’t be that way anymore. There should be alternatives.

MemberI did the same thing. I emailed yahoo over and over..all I got was the same email in return. That thing that says you have to enter your zip and birthdate. For some reason they don’t believe that stuff can change……I even asked if they knew what Identity theft was *LOL* but I got the same email from then again, this time at the bottom it was signed by some guy and it said due to security reasons they are unable to do anything with my account. I was worried about someone doing something with my name and address, but if they can’t I guess I’m jus S.O.L. on a 7 year old account……. Is there any *LMAO*
I even wrote to my oen email and asked the hacker to give it back. he didn’t write back tho:p
Edit: Sorry…please don’t allude to such things, thanks for understanding.

Well the e-mail delivery is based usually how long the e-mail itself contains, if its a lot, of course its slow, if not as long then its faster, especially if you are sending it to another yahoo user. That gets sent within one day. And on the defending yahoo, its obvious people would do so, they are offering you free services, they may not be the best in the world, but they do what they can. And if you seriously don’t like it, change to another e-mail provider then?…They try their best to get people to use their’s, but i’m sure they can live with one less person who seems to be truly dissatisfied with their services.[She who laughs last…Thinks slowest.]

MemberPoint taken. I will not use Yahoo services or buy from its merchants again. THe thing was I was comfortable enough with yahoo before this incident happen. And actually many people are already dissatisfied with it and move to gmail. And I’m not sure what you are talking about sending yahoo to another user I was talking about Yahoo Account Security and how long it takes for them to reply. Also I have my school’s email which is much more secure than yahoo anyway . It just happens that I changed schools and I used yahoo as a backup. That was my mistake. Fool me once I learned my lesson. I am only trying to minimize the damage and get my account back if possible.
