ParticipantYahoo Servers have reached their peak due to overuse of Bots/users in Rooms.
Yahoo! claim to be fixing this issue by May 14th
As to how they are gonna fix it or get around the bot issue is still a mystery.
You will just have to wait and see as the slow login issue is a global issue.

MemberIt’s a global issue. Chat rooms are in a frantic state until May 14 like Dermot said.
Oh, and welcome to BigBlueBall. ๐

I have to ask….
If this were the case, and assuming the majority of chat users are from the US and Canada, would entering/changing rooms say between 3-5 am EDT have a noticeable improvement to the lag compared to at other times?

Memberthanks it is great to be here and meet with nice people like you in this forum :))
I would like to add that if this issue will go on like this till May 14th, i have doubt there will be any users left on yahoo :))
I have an idea about boots, why they put a code which can be generated by system ( like when we regester any forum ) on every single sing in for every users , it maybe work , its just a simple idea :))

MemberA captcha may not be too effective (not to mention annoying/inconvenient to some users).
I honestly think Yahoo will only put a band-aid over a deep wound.

It’s possible, but, one would have to keep in mind that bot makers on the other side of the world would most likely be still running their spam bots in chat rooms.

Yes, I think they experiment with possible fixes.

Because they seem to pull little updates from the servers at times. The Yahoo chat servers are running at maximum right now. I honestly don’t think Yahoo really knows what they’re doing.
After all, a couple month ago Adam (a real Yahoo! genius) literally had to threaten Yahoo to fix the nasty room boot, and even gave information how to fix it.
About a captcha, I don’t agree with this as it’s an inconvenience and frustrating to do every time you log on. In addition to that, captchas can be circumvented.
I believe the best fix would require major changes in the YMSG protocol, and how it works. The downside to this is, it would most likely kill off 3rd party clients like YahELite and YMLite.

ParticipantYahoo! from my understanding outsourced chat to a 3rd party so fixed are few and set for certain times so they can fix many issues with a certain timeline.
The may 14th notice just happens to be around the time they also start unveiling more storage for their e-mail service and what i would imagine that will happen is either a drop of all protocols prior to ymsg 13 seeing as they have readily dropped all support for versions of messenger thet used them already or they could get more servers to handle the new payload of users/bots on their service.
While captcha (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart), would be a interesting addition to login it has been broken and can be read in automation like ven0m mentioned using edge detection and other forms of image word detection, while yes most “booters” won’t have the know how to do this in Visual basic it is certain some person will probally make a class or module to do it for them sooner or later. Also while yahoo would somewhat benefit from this use of captcha it would prove troublesome for them also with the prevention to blind or visually impaired users and lazy chatters leaving chat because they just dont want to type in the words all the time.
There could be a few possibilities on what yahoo could do to prevent spam on their chat network but what i would imagine would be the harsh way would be to just end chat support as out of most it’s chat functions they have ended them without remorse or reason for the last 2 years and ending it completely would solve a lot of their headaches. Would they do this? maybe they will or maybe they won’t, it’s anybodies guess at the moment.
If they are moving to faster servers to make way for their new unlimited option for mail perhaps they will move the chat servers again also, or as they could, remove all access to European ip addresses from chat…then you will have just a American/Canadian spam bot infested chat like aol ๐

April 13, 2007 at 6:24 am #160200coldfirexx
MemberAs we see and understant yahoo messenger chat has reached worst stuation and people nearly cannot surf one chat room to other, and as Dermot and Ven0m explained (thanks for them atleast some one out there to inform us properly ) we have to wait till 14th may and see how serious is yahoo about fixing all this issue , seems there is nothing to do but keep complaining about it as users ๐

MemberThe chat room issues is all because of the server lag. Like I said, this probably won’t be corrected until May 14th, so until then, it’s hit and miss.
