I want to toss up this idea.
Seeing as how Google Talk is it’s own independant messenger, I would definately think it should get its own forums. I mean, Trillian has its own forums, and they don’t even have their own protocol, it’s just a nice 4-in-one app.
I wanted to know what other people thought about this, too, so I’m asking here.
I think there’s more than a strong possibility that we’ll do just that. Usually what I’ll do is wait until there is enough material to let the topic stand on it’s own. We’re pretty close already, and the activity in there has let up a bit, but will likely continue.
I will revisit in another week, after everyone else has had a chance to voice their opinion.
here’s my two bits, for anyone interested. i think that at the moment, GT is still too new to have it’s own forum. it’s only been out for a week now, and has yet to develop a major following as have the other major networks… sure it has a sudden surge of popularity (after all, it is google) but i’m not sure how well it’s going to catch on. i know there will be a few people who decide to use it all the time, but i think unless it develops interoperability with the other networks, it’s just not gonna be as big as AIM or MSN or Yahoo. especially when a lot of people (not including myself) want all these “features” that the others have. (see some of my other posts in the GT forum for my thoughts on “features”)
unless it really really catches on and becomes a big competitor, i’d say leave it as is. it has it’s own subforum in Alternatives, that should suffice for the moment.
