Folks,
I’ve just upgraded to the latest Messenger build 244 and something strange is happening.
I’m getting loads of Temp files (typical name TMP93.tmp) being written into my main C:Program FilesYahoo!Messenger Folder. I’ve just deleted 35 of these files.
This didn’t happen to me when using the the previous build 239 of Messenger.
Each Temp file contains this text:-
I can’t figure out from that what it’s loading so I’m not sure why these files are being written.
Just to be sure I uninstalled my Updated Messenger (registry and all) and did a fresh instsall with the .exe file downloaded from the Yahoo server. However the problem is still ocurring.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here and how I can stop these files from being written (if that is possible) and in the meantime I’ll revert to build 239 to get around things.
Thanks.
Colin

When you downloaded the yahoo messenger did you download the installer suite or the direct download?
i suggest using the stand alone installer instead of the web installer suite.
You can find the direct download link in the latest mssenger thread.
8.1.0.244 is latest as of this post.

I did initialy upgrade from Messengers prompt to do so (the upgrade alerter) and after noticing the problem I uninstalled everything and deleted the relevant registry entries (and yes I do know my way around that area) and then reinstalled with the standalone .exe as you mentioned. But that didn’t fix anything and the Temp files kept being written.
I’ve given up on 244 now and gone back to the previous 239 build which is working perfectly normaly for me.
I’ve got another drive here and I put 244 on that one and it did the same thing so god knows whats causing it…I’m surprised no one else is having the problem which tends to suggest that both my drives contain something that build 244 doesn’t like…but just what is beyond me.
I’ll wait for a future build to be released before moving up from 239 and see what happens then.
Cheers.

March 22, 2007 at 10:33 pm #159328codneimMemberI’ve just deleted 132 TMPxx.tmp files off that directory. It seems yahoo dev team has once again screwed up something in their code. I wonder if these people ever heard of product quality or testing, it seems that major bugs get skipped without them ever caring 😉
March 22, 2007 at 10:56 pm #159326imported_Ven0mMemberI deleted over 500 of the files. Blah. Why am I not surprised at Yahoo for this one? Indeed codneim, Yahoo doesn’t fix their major bugs, nor do they care…
March 22, 2007 at 11:06 pm #159331mfenechMemberI found and deleted about 15 of them, but they all had today’s date. I’ve been on build 244 since it was first posted. I’ll watch and see what happens next.
March 23, 2007 at 3:08 am #159325DermotParticipantdo any of you use the plugins?
i think these files and some of the xml caches belong to plugins
March 23, 2007 at 5:33 am #159332mfenechMemberI don’t use any.
March 23, 2007 at 11:11 am #159330colin1951ukParticipantI don’t use plugins either so I think we can discount them.
Well as I’m happy to see it’s not just me who’e seeing this strange phenomena (good word eh 😀 ) I’ve sent a bug report to Yahoo! Support.
I don’t expect an answer…but maybe we’ll see a new build shortly fixing the problem…whilst introducing a couple more I expect 😉
Cheers.
