ParticipantThis is it, TerraIM 1.0 is out.
If you haven’t tried it yet, TerraIM is lightweight (638K download), not even requiring an installation, so just about any computer with Windows can run it. It can be completely skinned, with a default dark theme. It also has logging, offline messaging, and other features you might expect.
If you have tried it before, this is it, an absolutely stable, completely usable release. File transfer support is 100%, even working sometimes when gAIM fails. Also, custom sounds can be assigned, with a new default ‘twirp’. Tabs have been completely fixed for a ‘natural’ feel, and all of the bugs have been worked out. Of course, there are more minor features like bolding the buddy list when users sign on, but the big thing is that TerraIM is now fully usable not only on the road but as a main client.
Suggestions and Comments are always welcome, the developer will probably be browsing the forums if you post them here, so go download TerraIM and see what you think.

ParticipantSure thing (though I wish I could take credit for the good work)
Any suggestions? This is the perfect time for features to be added to the next release’s todo list (obviously if you’re sticking with normal AIM, you probably have some)June 9, 2005 at 10:40 pm #123948Someguy03
MemberWhat is supposed to make this better than AIM? (Because honestly, I dont see how it is better in any possible way)

Good, point, so here’s the list, taking out AIMutation, M_M/Smilez features (including items that don’t overlap)-Low RAM usage
-Offline messaging
-Random colors
-No install
-Saving settings to a file (for USB usage)So, as you can see, even compared to AIM with third-party additions, TerraIM still has a bit to offer

MemberIf it got a GUI overhaul, I would consider using it. But at the moment, when comparing features, its poor (no offense) interface outweighs its “unique” features and make it not worth using.

ParticipantNo offense taken, I can’t really say I designed it. I’m guessing you’re talking about the alternate skin, using a dark base. Whenever something is different, there is some shock, so that’s probably why you thought of it as poor. Try using the ‘classic’ skin, I’m sure you’ll find it feels familiar like the normal AIM client.

MemberIt works very well and is quite fast. It’s also very handy for people that can’t or don’t want to install an AIM client. I’m hoping for some encryption support so I can give this to one particular friend.

ParticipantQuite true, if you already have AIM installed, its easier to keep it. That being said, if you’re at a new computer, TerraIM is perfect, you don’t even have to install, it just runs.

MemberIt would be perfect if it had Direct Connect support.
