First the good news…
We’re getting ready to do a big upgrade to BigBlueBall, adding new features, a new look, and other goodies.
Now for the bad news…
Unfortunately, when we upgrade the forums, our existing arcade will no longer be compatible.
Now for more GOOD news!
Fortunately, there is another arcade that is compatible, and there is a process for upgrading all the existing games and scores. Woo-hoo!
Finally, we can weed out some of the people who play games, but don’t really participate in the community by requiring x number of posts in order to play.
For now, I’ve got the new arcade software installed over at GetGamer.com. Please check it out and see what you think.

Looks great! 😉
March 22, 2008 at 8:48 pm #168220FanaticMemberThis is cool… I’ve reactivated my getgamer account. The UI looks a little cluttered compared to the one on BigBlueBall, but there’s lots of features. I’m guessing the UI issues can be dealt with?
March 22, 2008 at 10:37 pm #168217Jeff HesterKeymasterI’ve updated the format so it display a little nicer (in my opinion).
I’ve also set up the scores to auto-prune when they get 30 days old. Good or bad?
March 24, 2008 at 11:55 pm #168221FanaticMemberI like the auto-pruning idea… it eliminates the need to worry about resetting the scores once a month.
On the downside, you won’t have a monthly “winner” — it’ll just be whoever has the high score for the past 30 days.
The display IS much nicer now, too. 😉

Good or bad?Well…. since you asked, IMHO the scores should never be pruned, or at least they should be kept as long as the score holder is active on the forums. I thought my Pacman scores were going to last through the ages :p
… but maybe that’s just me 🙂

The problem with that is that over time, the scores get impossibly high and discourage people. By resetting them monthly, or pruning them after 30 days, everyone has a chance at getting a trophy, even if only for a short while.

March 29, 2008 at 7:26 pm #168219Jeff HesterKeymasterWe’ve begun testing the tournament mode over at GetGamer. Currently anyone eligible to play in the arcade can start a new tournament. We have one currently underway and it looks really cool!
