I’ve got things MOSTLY working on the new server, and would appreciate if you would give it a test: http://74.52.99.167
Known problems:
- vBSEO plug-in for friendly URLs is currently disabled. I’m awaiting authorization to run this on a second server.
- Most of the IM Centers don’t load. The physical path to the website changed, and there is some hard-coded paths in the code of those pages that prevents them from rendering at all.
- Probably much more, but those are the things that I caught. Now I’m going to catch a few zzzzs.
- Ads served by our ad server (phpAdsNew) aren’t showing up (not that anyone will complain, right?). I haven’t copied the database for the ad server over… yet.
Thanks for helping. I’m hoping to switch this over later today (Saturday).
August 12, 2006 at 4:31 pm #150486Jeff HesterKeymasterUpdate: vBSEO is now working (or should be) on the new server.
August 12, 2006 at 6:42 pm #150494shifterParticipantSeems to be running smooth for what I’ve tried on it. The Friendly URL’s are working perfectly in the forums too.
August 13, 2006 at 10:07 am #150487Jeff HesterKeymasterI haven’t been able to complete the upgrade tonight as hoped, so I’m shooting for tomorrow night. I’ll be in the air for a good portion of the day, but the time difference will probably have me up late again Sunday…. er, later today. 😉
August 13, 2006 at 12:05 pm #150500MrEggsaladParticipantNot too bad, the loading times seem to be a little bit longer and “splotchy” as they load in clumps, but that also could just be due to code stuff/things not working right yet. All and all, not too bad.
EDIT: After using it for a little while the splotchy-ness has gone away, smooth as the regular server now! Think the loading times are close as well.
August 13, 2006 at 12:44 pm #150488Jeff HesterKeymasterI wouldn’t gauge the load times just yet, and I don’t expect a noticeable improvement (if any). Right now, I’m doing a bunch of work on the server, importing databases, transferring files, etc. and that could effect performance.
The processors of the new PC are a little faster (2.8 Ghz vs 2.4), but the main reason for the upgrade was to move to a newer version of Red Hat Enterprise Server, which in turn supports a newer version of PHP, which in turn supports vBulletin 3.6.
Once I get things transferred to the new server, I’ll get the a test forum going with vB 3.6 and begin work on the redesign (later this week).
By the way, it’s 5:42 am Sunday morning (with no sleep last night…yet), and I’m sitting at the airport waiting to board, surfing using my Sprint Power Vision connection via my laptop. It works surprising well.
August 21, 2006 at 3:46 pm #150489Jeff HesterKeymasterGood news! If you can see this post, you’re on the new server.
I switched things over last night. The old server has a message across the top explaining the move. I’ve shut down registrations and posts on the old server.
Please let me know if you run across any problems with the new server.
August 21, 2006 at 4:00 pm #150501MrEggsaladParticipantYay, new server, I think the speed is a little better as well (or I am just having a good day). That’s fantastic!
August 22, 2006 at 12:34 pm #150493OreoMemberIt seems super speedy to me too! 🙂
August 22, 2006 at 6:01 pm #150496SpikeMemberYeah, it does seem a bit faster. Looks great, Jeff, now I can’t wait to finally upgrade vBulletin! 😀
August 22, 2006 at 10:33 pm #150495shifterParticipantI just recieved an email from a user trying to register on the site. She can’t! The image verification image is not showing, so nobody can register! Better put that on the top of your list Jeff!
August 22, 2006 at 10:42 pm #150499DrBroccoliParticipantThat’s not good o.O! I’ve noticed a bit of speed increase too! Glad almost everything went smoothly!

After installing ImageMagick and STILL not getting the verification image to show up, I’ve disabled the image verification part of registration. But since that’s not working, I’m betting that thumbnails aren’t working either. Maybe someone can test this?
I’m in Houston for a couple days, and my schedule is going to keep me from messing with it anymore until I get back on Friday.
August 23, 2006 at 8:15 am #150497SpikeMemberAnd by thumbnails you mean attachment images, I assume. I attached a test image, let’s see if it works or not.
Edit: Nope. 🙁
August 24, 2006 at 4:36 am #150491Jeff HesterKeymasterOk, I’ve gotten ImageMagick installed, turned on the image validation in the registration and it’s working properly. Now I’m testing the thumbnail generation…
Nope, it fails to even upload. 🙁
