About a month ago I had a virus. AIM was one of the things that was killed. I’ve since cleaned up the computer and tried reinstalling AIM. I got the “The AIM service can’t be reached” message. I uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, cleaned up the registry COMPELETELY of all AIM references, reinstalled. I still get the same message.
I’m connecting thru a router (LAN) and using Windows XP on a Gateway desktop computer.
Any help?
Did you try this:
AIM Prefrences > Sign On / Off >> Connection >>> and click Auto Configure?
Do you have a firewall? If so, make sure it isn’t blocking the port that AIM uses, you can find or set the port by going to:
AIM Prefrences > Sign On / Off >> Connection
bobbie, I also use a router…are you sure you are connected through a LAN? I have my aim preferences and sign on/off set to cable modem. are you sure you are not connected using cable modem? j/w
