MemberThis thread will be stickied and constantly bumped (by yours truly) because I really think we need to integrate the CMS into the site. Here’s a very recent and relevant thread which clearly highlights one of the reasons why we need to get this thing in gear: The IM Centers haven’t been updated in a really long time (years?), and as this very persistent Yahoo premiere member has noticed, they need some updating and fast. I mean, really, they’re the links at the top of every page; our main navigation links! Those links should be where everything else spawns from, not the forums! Are we running a website or a message board, here, people (and don’t get me wrong: websites can have message boards on them).
I’m going to put a progress bar here to track our, um… progress? on the CMS.
Total Progress: xx%Current Standing: Discontinued.

MemberYou’re absolutely right! I need to start writing up some officially-unofficial information on AIM to have at users’ disposal on that main link up top. Thanks for bringing it to my attention 🙂

KeymasterFor what it’s worth, I have been working with the guys over at vBDrupal to sort out the technical problems (as you can see in this thread).
The system is partially functional, and if you’d like to start testing, you can check it out here: https://bigblueball.com/cms/
As I mentioned in the discussion about updating the Yahoo Center, though you may not currently have direct edit rights yet (you will when we get the CMS working), I will gladly update or add new articles, or reference material that you’ve created.

KeymasterUpdate on the CMS
I’ve resolved the problems with the usernames (it had to do with uppercase characters in names, believe it or not). So now you should be able to create and post articles or comments. That was the biggest problem in the way, so now I can get down to customizing it to look right. In the meantime, if you want to begin creating pages for the IM Centers, you can. Since the content is independent of the page layout, the pages you create will automatically be reformatted when we finalize the design — no loss of time or effort.

KeymasterHey, this is big news folks! Isn’t anyone else going to do some testing, maybe with some REAL content? This is what you’ve been waiting for — the ability to edit your own pages within the IM Centers!! 🙂

MemberTo be honest… it looks kinda crappy at the moment. I really hate the table-ish look of it, I’d rather much have it like the current news style. I know, I know, you’re working on it, all in due time. 😉
But alas, you’re right, we could. Next time I get some free time, I’ll convert the Other IM center over to the new format. 🙂

KeymasterDon’t worry about the look for now. If the content pages are created, they will automatically be reformatted when I get the style stuff sorted out.
And it will NOT have the “table” format that it currently uses. Blech!

MemberI’ve edited the style of the CMS, changed the look of the menus, added a menu, and got URL aliases to work, so give it another try and let me know what you think!

KeymasterShaping up nicely. I like the friendly URLs, for example, Other IM Center – CMS
Spike, is it possible to allow comments without registration (like most blogs)? I’d still like to have them enter their name, etc. (like most blogs), but don’t want to force them to register just to leave a comment.
Of course, on the other hand, if they ARE a member and signed-in, it should (hopefully) just use that info automatically, right?

ParticipantUgh, you ARE going to use different side menus on the left, RIGHT? 😉

MemberYes of course, that was just me messing around trying to see to what extent I could customize them. I’d really like to make it similar to our current left-hand side menu.

MemberOkay, anonymous commenting (with REQUIRED information) should be enabled, so guests can post to their heart’s content.
I’ve also edited the comments style to reflect the style of the rest of the CMS (minus a few things like the ugly sidebar), check out a comment example here: https://bigblueball.com/cms/node/4#comment
Let me know what you think! 🙂
