September 19, 2006 at 5:54 pm #152439Jeff HesterKeymasterI think this is a very cool and noble idea. I’m going to sign-up, and encourage others to do the same, putting those unused CPU cycles to use, working on a good cause!
Props to WhiteMateria for getting the ball rolling!

September 21, 2006 at 2:19 am #152440Jeff HesterKeymasterI downloaded the visual client (there is also a text-only version). It’s pretty cool to watch. I’ve attached a screenshot with my current folding progress.
September 21, 2006 at 3:07 am #152460QuiksilverMemberI remember Jeff posting Folding@Home for the SETI project a really long time ago, and I think it was me that made the team called BigBlueBall. I did a little search and found the team number, so I don’t know if you want to join the one Jeff made or the one actually called BigBlueBall. The number is 40580 for Team BigBlueBall, so join if you want =)

September 21, 2006 at 10:51 pm #152461QuiksilverMemberI switched to IM Folding@BigBlueBall but I don’t show up on the team stats page. The only person I see in the team is Jeff himself. When I run a search for my username (quiksilver) I get several results. Do you think that the problem may be that my username is used by other people and therefore doesn’t show up or something else?
September 21, 2006 at 10:57 pm #152456SpikeMemberWow, Jeff, look at that, you can even print yourself out a nifty certificate! Heh!

This is actually an impressive time considering that proteins under the AMBER code cannot utilize the 3DNow or SSE optimization boosts – Which brand, model, and chipset is your CPU?I’m running a Sony VAIO desktop with an Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz processor and 2 GB RAM on Windows XP Pro.
WhiteMateria;207594 wrote:The other question I have for you is this: Since you have folded one whole WU did it interfere with your day to day activities on your computer at all while running or did you hardly notice it? I think others would want to know who might be a little worried about this before running it.I didn’t notice any difference at all, although I have to admit that when I’m home, I tend to switch back and forth between my desktop (running the Folding@Home stuff) and my laptop (just for work). Here I’m usually running several IM programs and Firefox with about a dozen tabs open. At any given point I might have Visual Studio or Photoshop running as well. So all-in-all, I’d say it worked pretty well. It seems to behave nicely. Maybe I’ll install it on another PC here at home… 😎

Since my own WU is only 53% done it will take another couple of days to finish up and for me to even show up on the board myself.Oh, okay. Also, my old account had 1200 something credits on it, no way of retrieving that right? Since it’s not password based and you just type in any name you want.
Lol Jeff’s got me beat for some reason. I have 3.0Ghz with 2G RAM and run approximately the same amount of programs as him and his goes a lot faster than mine. It takes mine approximately 20 minutes per frame. I have 220 out of 500 done right now, it says it’ll finish sometime next week.
By the way, Materia, where do you check how many credits you get per work unit? I’m working on something called p1814_Collagen_POG10r
September 22, 2006 at 12:43 am #152457SpikeMemberAlright. I’ve got this set up on my main computer and my linux box here at home, we’ll see how long it takes for one simulation to run through. So far no decrease in performance.

September 23, 2006 at 4:16 pm #152463QuiksilverMemberQuote:EDIT: To QuikSilverIs your system clean of spyware, etc.? Have you defragged your disk lately? BTW maybe you should update the bios and motherboard driver from the manufacturer’s homepage and your video card straight from the homepage of the chipset brand (nVidia/ATi/etc.). Sometimes things just work faster after you do this.
I updated the Nvidia driver for my video card a while ago. This computer is less than two months old and I run spyware checks periodically, my computer’s clean =). It doesn’t really matter all that much to me, I was just wondering. Finally got my first WU for BBB done. The next one I have says it has 20,000 frames and takes around ten seconds per frame =O.
I see detn8r contributed a piece of work too while Jeff already got his second 153 pointer down and ready. The one I’m working on has 369 or something like that…woo.
Motherboard should be up to date considering it’s two months old o_0.
