As everyone well knows by now, the controversial book-turned-film, The Da Vinci Code will be released in theaters this Friday.
Who here is planning on seeing the movie? I sure am going to see it on opening day with my mom.
Has anyone read the book? Do you feel the movie will accurately portray the book?
Do YOU feel the book is controversial? Why or why not?
May 17, 2006 at 4:05 pm #144695Jeff HesterKeymasterI’ve read the book, and I plan to see the movie. It looks like they’ve done a good job of casting.
Is it controversial? Only if you forget that it’s FICTION. :p
May 17, 2006 at 5:56 pm #144697RabidKittenParticipantExactly, it’s -fiction- people. Ugh what I hate is when people read it, then all of the sudden they think they’re some kind of schollar. Yeah, it’s interesting, but really…I’ve read better. It made me giggle sometimes, but… … meh. In honesty it’s nothing that special.
Then again I’ve spent a good portion of my life going over and learning concepts and theories presented there, so it was old news for me. The only reason if got so popular is because the average person doesn’t take the time to look through things of that nature.
… … oh… … and the average person has -no- sense of what the word “fiction” means. *rolls her eyes emphatically* Jiminy Cricket, I hate the general public sometimes. They make my ears bleed.
But yeah, the casting looks great. Other than that, I haven’t heard much *shrug*

May 18, 2006 at 3:36 pm #144699gossipingraeMemberI know it’s fiction. My dad is a practicing Catholic, and he won’t even read the book, because it counters his faith. I’ve tried telling him it is fiction. I think a lot of people are upset because author Dan Brown supposedly will not admit it is fiction. Whatever. I plan to see it.
EDIT: so i saw the movie yesterday, may 20. i really liked it! my mom and i went and she fell asleep three times (she claims because she already knew what was goign to happen).
everything in the movie is exactly the same as the book, except for a slight alteration in the end. i’m not going to tell you, but if you want to talk about it after you see it, i gladly will.
the movie overall was good. it didn’t rock my world, needless to say. if you’re super excited to see it, then i would say it is worth your money. if you aren’t that excited, wait to rent it.
May 22, 2006 at 1:35 pm #144702PolarBearNPRParticipantOkay – so I haven’t seen it, nor do I plan to, but I did see a rebuttal in the form of a parody from folks who are trying to get the message out about albinism http://www.albinocode.com/movie.htm Very funny. If you’ve seen the movie what do you think of this parody?

May 22, 2006 at 2:01 pm #144698SpikeMemberI saw it yesterday. It was…long. 2:30, about, so be prepared for a nice long movie. Like rae said, everything is the same, except the ending (which I thought was really cool). But I really, realy enjoyed it. I hope it gets some award or something it was so good. I’m a christian, and I’m conscious that this is all fictitious.
A thought (spoiler, hilight to read:)
At the end, when they were down in the room, all those guys coming into the church, I thought, were going to get them (I forgot the way the story went), but they turned out to be the Priory people. I was relieved. Did anyone else think this or am I just wierd?
End spoiler.
The movie was great, I encourage everyone to see it. It will go down in history as a classic, however controversial it is. Remember: It’s finction! Not real! Go see it! 🙂
May 22, 2006 at 3:58 pm #144696Jeff HesterKeymasterI saw it Friday night. It was ok, but the book was better. You could wait to see it when it comes out on DVD and you wouldn’t really miss anything.
I thought the casting was good overall, but there was too little detail about Opus Dei and some of the character development was very weak (a common problem taking books to film).
May 22, 2006 at 4:12 pm #144700NessaParticipantI saw it on Friday the day it was released. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with a short attention spam as it’s one of the type of movies you have to pay attention to and listen to the details if you want to get what’s going on.
Spike: Some-what of a spoiler below:
My brother thought the same thing too, but by the look in the guy’s eyes who saw them going down, i assumed he was good. I know it’s fiction but it’s interesting to see how far people could go just to cover up that he was just human. Also the guy (Sir Leigh Teabing, that appears on X-men), he really did a good acting job at fooling me. I was shocked at the things he did, but heck of a role he played. The worst part for me to watch was the “ghost” (Silas, albino-looking guy) clogging himself. *shudders*
Over-all i liked it and thought it was okay, but not as good as i hyped it up to be though.
