Is this weird? Or is it about time?
There a consortium that is promoting an open-source specification for conveying a deeper range of human emotion using XML. (Read the press release).
The idea of using technology to express a deeper range of human emotion just sounds funny to me. I mean, deeper than what? Certainly not deeper than what you can share face-to-face, right?

Yes, its weird………..
I always thought one end of the open source spectrum was kinda off the planet but…………. cataloguing emotions? Save me.
Archaeologists dig up bits and catalogue em so as to understand what it is they are digging into. This however smacks of archaeology in reverse, these turkeys are cataloguing current emoticons? and future generations will read this and see us as……… OMG, plastic people.
This insanity has to stop.
