Whenever I talk to people, the IM box remains empty as if nobody has said anything. It’s not cool having a conversation with someone when you don’t know what they’re saying.
Well first off, Welcome to BBB, and sorry no one has replied sooner!
Would you mind telling me which version of Yahoo! Messenger you are using?
Secondly, i remember a few other topics with this problem a while back, so let me go ahead and find them and i shall edit my post adding them here for you to read them!
Edit: Alright those were the one’s i found but they don’t seem to have found a solution… Although if you are running anything lower than final version 8, maybe try upgrading to see if the problem solves itself, since 8 seems to have sorted out most bugs!
When you send/receive an instant message and you see the typing notification but no message appears, you most likely have Scripting disabled in your Internet Explorer.
To enable Scripting:Click the Tools menu on your Internet Explorer toolbar, select Internet Options, and select the Security tab.
Click the Internet (globe) icon and select the Custom Level button.
Scroll down to Scripting and make sure that Active scripting, Allow paste operations via script, and Scripting of Java applets are all enabled.
Finally, close all open IM windows. You should start seeing text in your IM windows once again.I’m using Firefox. =P And strangely enough, I opened IE and all those three were enabled. o_o
I’ll try upgrading to the newest Yahoo.
… wait, I’m pretty sure I do have V8. >_>
Hmm… I just redownloaded it to make sure, and the website said it was the final version. =P Maybe I should just download an older version… I don’t plan to do anything other than participate in conversations and conferences.
Yeah, but as long as they’re smaller bugs than what this is…

I download Version 7 and it does the exact same. >_< What the hell.
Has this always happened to you on Yahoo! Messenger? Or did it barely start occurring? Did you download anything or make any changes on your computer before it started happening?
I’ve never actually used Yahoo Messenger before. I just started because my main message board is having their first conference soon. As for downloads/changes… hmm… I make too many to keep track of them all. >_>
Also, the other person can read my messages fine; this one person I talked to PM’d me our conversation since it showed up for her… although I guess it wasn’t really a conversation…
see what version the other person has?
Think about doing a clean unistall, look in yahoo messenger 8 (out of the bag) for clean unistall. then reinstall messenger 8 if it still has the same problem, it is not yahoo that is your problem.
Yeah, I just tried it on the upstairs computer, and it works up there (I can’t use that one as often, though). This is stupid.
