MemberI’m sceptical.
Pictures sent by the troops in Iraq for public broadcast online? It sounds a bit unlikely to me…
I’m sure if it was legitimate then it would have been spread all over the news.

MemberI highly doubt that any of it is real. Our troops could get into serious trouble doing things like that, and be charged with war crimes.

ParticipantNops… friends these photos are real, US army officals are investigating this. Look at this news story by Washington Post.
There are also other links on ‘America Blog‘ see it thoughly.September 30, 2005 at 9:35 pm #131044MartinBradley
MemberWell, I’ll retract what I said earlier…as I was told that it has in fact been on the news. I am still to see it on TV myself though.

Check this out, I think CBS reported on it on the air. The Independent (UK).
CNN International. Al Jazeera.John from America Blog says:
for Thursday with possibly the worst quotes yet from the military. Not only does the Pentagon claim they have nothing to identify the soldiers with (oh, how about THEIR FACES IN THE PHOTOS, YOU MORONS), and they say they can’t tell if those are real body parts or not. I kid you not, this is their excuse. They think perhaps the man sitting in the car with his head blown off and two US troops peering in is, what, a dummy? The dismembered arm dangling from the wall with the soldier smiling at it, is, what, a stage prop he just happened to import into Baghdad? Amazing. Absolutely amazing. But don’t worry, I’ve got several more angles and more to report on this story in the days ahead. If they think this is going away, oh….
ABC NewsAnd there are lots more articles here.

ParticipantWhat is also sick is to read messages like “oh that is so cool!” “kill the bastards” “big headshot” and other similiar disgusting comments, under the uncensored pictures..

MemberI think there could be some heavy political reasons why this isn’t getting widespread coverage in the news.
Plenty of stories were denied coverage in the first Gulf War because none of the big networks wanted to show it. For politcal reasons.

For politcal reasons. You are right Qwerty, the reasons are that the image of Allied forces is already spoiled after Photos of Abu Ghareeb prison coming out and that added to growing hate and anti-american thought. Now if this one becomes big issue they think extreamists will highlight/exploit it and wide spread anti-american thought.
But now hiding all this is not the right thing, the news is finally out!! Hiding and not prosecuting the criminals behind this is the process of ‘blunders’ done by US one by one, over and over again.William Pfaff wrote in a December issue of the International Herald Tribune “In the months following the terrorist attacks of September 2001, it was politically taboo to say that the United States had in some way brought these attacks upon itself. Television talk show hosts and print journalists lost their jobs for suggesting such a thing.”

Calm down Aqeel.
I have no doubt that the US Army will inquire and try all those it finds to be in contempt here. However, in the Government’s eyes the US people do not need to know and so the Government isnt going to go out of her way to show people.
That is wat the role of media is in a Liberal democratic society, to make the Government accountable. Unofrtunetly, somewhere along the line, the big US media corporations and the USA Gov got their lines crossed and now there is a slight problem with the media’s scrutiny.
You cant fully critisise the Governemtn for this. Why should they make sure the media is free to scrutinise them?
Its the big news corporations. In greed and stuggle for power, they have bent over. If your going to have massive anti-american rants, at least know who you want and need to be yelling at.

MemberI don’t see why this is so suprising, the site which those pictures are posted is a shock site, so it having something shocking shouldn’t be so foreign

MemberOf course our government isn’t going to show that. It’s for good reason. Who actually WANTS to see that?? We all know what’s going on over there, we just don’t like to see it for ourselves.
Yes, people are disgusting and think and do nasty things. There’s nothing I can do about it.
