The heads at Nintendo first want to appease to the japanese crowd over there and Revolution would be too difficult for them to say so Wii was created and it only has that meaning here and europe perhaps.

You watch their Press Release from E3, they acknowledge that, “For those of you who gave positive support to our new console name we thank you. All two of you.”Heh, that’s pretty funny. However, didn’t the name get like everyone to hear about it? If it was by making fun of it or saying it was cool, a LOT of people know now. They obviously had the name like this to get it known well, and best of all they didn’t really have to spend too much to advertise really anywhere. See, the American people are the billboards walking around and talking about it. Smart.
