With Hurricane Rita now at category five strength the people of Texas should be in all our prayers. With more than one million people being evacuated from the coastline I can not imagine their despair. In moments like this I can not believe that the issue being discussed on the news is where the price of gas will be after Rita smacks straight into the heart of our fuel strength. There will be time for that discussion, for now let us pray human life will be spared.

I saw on the news how packed the roads are from all the people trying to evacuate. They’ll all be in my prayers. From what I heard last night, they consider that hurricane like a giant tornado. It is huuuge.

They will be able to (hopfully) get themselves, their belongings and their animals out of harm’s way. Indeed the people there will be in my thoughts and prayers as well. (Let’s also hope this one does not plow into N.O. … or there will not be much left to rebuild upon… it is a chilling thought.)

We are not too close to the coast but we are being forewarned of flooding and lots of rain with strong winds. Everyone is taking precaution, and hopefully we don’t get power outages for too long. Grocery stores are basically being emptied out, people are going in a frenzy to have supplies in case something greater happens. We can only wait and see what happens, hope nothing too major goes wrong.

September 22, 2005 at 4:33 pm #130623LucifinaMemberOh dear Rusty, I hope you and everyone else there are going to be ok. My stepmom is still in Houston working in that branch of the company that she worked for in N.O.. We are in the process of getting things as organized as we can and covering things up hoping we won’t get water again. My prayers are with all of you and please let us know how you are and what things are like. Stay safe *hugs*
September 22, 2005 at 7:08 pm #130625DrBroccoliParticipantWow, its just devasting that we can have 2 HUGE hurricanes hit within weeks of eachother, just think what will happen if this goes to New Orleans again, the breeches in the levies will break, causing more flooding. Even if it goes through Texas they are predicting it will kind of “wrap around itself”, in its path, and will put about 24 inches of rain on the north part of Texas, which will run down the Mississippi River and go straight to New Orleans :(. And think about the 25% of all US refineries off the coast of Texas, gas will skyrocket, I heard around 5 buck-a-roos today :woot:! This is all devastating, I hope everyone down there stays safe, and no more hurricanes come! Remember hurricane season end November 31st.
September 23, 2005 at 3:19 am #130622colinMemberI live in Cedar Park, which is about 3 hours or so from Houston. Many evacuees are coming to Cedar Park, and about 350 of them are actually staying at our high school. They should have came tonight, and I guess I will see them tomorrow. There were be heightened security, so I hope no fights break out (but who knows, our school is full of idiots). I will let everyone know how it goes tomorrow, we have a half-day of school.
Edit: School was just cancelled for tomorrow because the schools are supposidly FULL with evacuees.
September 23, 2005 at 2:34 pm #130621OreoMemberDid any of you hear about the bus that started on fire taking people away from the hurricane?? It apparently malfuntioned because it was stuck in traffic so long. Something like 20 people died….and the fire was fueled even hotter by the elderly with their 02 tanks. 🙁 This is so terrible! What the HECK is going on here? I just hope everyone is staying safe…
We all know fuel prices (and therefore EVERYTHING ELSE) are going to go up…just buck up and deal with it. So many things worse could happen that paying a bit more for fuel is nothing. Think of all of the people that have to start over AS WELL AS paying more for everything? If all you have to complain about is the price of fuel…count yourself lucky.September 23, 2005 at 3:07 pm #130619Jeff HesterKeymasterIt almost feels like it’s the end of the world doesn’t it? So many disasters one after another, the economy going to the pits, the gas things in texas might be destroyed making things worse and the worst of all, all these people that have been left without homes and jobs to return to from Katrina and who knows what after this hurricane.
September 23, 2005 at 3:29 pm #130624gossipingraeMemberIt’s quite scary. It makes me reconsider different locations to migrate to after graduation. I’m definately not going any place near a body of water, that’s for sure! Also, I’m moving away from anywhere that has earthquake potential, such as California. And no snow, either. I don’t want to have to deal with an avalanche, so Alaska and Northern USA are out too.
Gas is going back up again, yes we know this. I just filled up yesterday when it was $2.69. That almost seems cheap compared to about $3.50 about 2 weeks ago.
I remember when gas was CHEAP around this time last year, like what? Around $1.42? *sighs*
