Microsofts new experiment, threedegrees, officially launched their open beta test program today.
Visit threedegrees.com for screen shots, an online feature tour, winks library and, of course, to download the beta.
Ive checked it out and its actually pretty cool. The group chat isnt really anything new (it uses MSN Messenger), but the winks are cool, and theyve made it easy for people to create their own. I also like the musicmix tool that lets you share your music with your friends. Unlike the typical P2P file sharing apps that have come under attack by the RIAA, musicmix lets your “group” create a playlist of up to 60 songs. As it plays, you all listen to the same song at the same time. If someone in the group logs off, the songs they added to the playlist “leave” with them (ostensibly to avoid nasty file sharing legal schtuff).
Im still concerned about the system requirements. It only runs on Windows XP SP1 and youve got to install their P2P add-on components. But hey, Ive got it, so if you want to test, just ring me.
