Ok – so I just thought this was an annoyance to me, but when Ryan saw the issue, he suggested I post the situation here. So . . . here’s what happens – and it happens about 50% of the time I come to BBB. When I come here, sometimes I get to the main forum page, then I’ll choose “Today’s posts” or a specific post I wanna look at, and the connection “Times out.” Sometimes I can’t even get to the forum page (which is bookmarked). The timing out thing usually goes away after about 5 minutes or so, meaning I go look at some other stuff and come back, but is frustrating.
I use Firefox 1.5.0.12 *ducks* because it’s what the computer geeks at the house have on this machine (you know I’m not computer-savvy) and wonder if that’s the issue or if there is some deeper thing going on. The only applications I have open are two IMs and an email. I generally don’t check BBB when I’m WoWing 😉
So – any ideas? Or do I just live with this until someone upgrades my computer a bit.

And if the problem persists (or you don’t want to do that), next time it happens, open IE and see if the issue is present there.

Hmmm – Ryan and I are on the same connection and he doesn’t have the issue. Hmmmm . . .

1/4/2007 2:46:49 AM Graham: btw. what is up with all the timeouts on BBB?
1/4/2007 2:47:19 AM Graham: I made a thread about it a few days ago and it seems there are several others who are having the same problem
1/4/2007 2:47:24 AM Graham: is it something you know about?
1/4/2007 2:49:22 AM Jeff: timeouts?
1/4/2007 2:49:31 AM Jeff: I haven’t seen the prob
1/4/2007 2:49:33 AM Graham: The server at http://www.bigblueball.com is taking too long to respond.
1/4/2007 2:49:56 AM Graham: I’ve been having big problems the past several weeks
1/4/2007 2:50:01 AM Graham: it’s really irritating
1/4/2007 2:50:34 AM Jeff: that is not BBB my friend
1/4/2007 2:50:42 AM Jeff: that message is a network problem
1/4/2007 2:51:00 AM Jeff: if it were BBB, you’d get a different message
1/4/2007 2:51:16 AM Jeff: being a network problem, it could occur anywhere along the pipe
1/4/2007 2:51:25 AM Jeff: and it MIGHT even effect other BBB users
1/4/2007 2:51:42 AM Graham: wonderful
1/4/2007 2:51:46 AM Jeff: if, for example, the network problem is at our data center
1/4/2007 2:51:55 AM Jeff: but it ain’t the server
1/4/2007 2:52:26 AM Jeff: so the thing to do… when you get that, it ping me (or any other BBB user online) and see if they also have the same prob
1/4/2007 2:52:40 AM Jeff: if not, then the problem is probably closer to your end of the pipeJuly 29, 2007 at 11:57 am #163047PolarBearNPRParticipantGraham – thanks for the run down. As I said, it’s more an annoyance than anything, so . . . not something I’m gonna address right away. But since Ryan doesn’t have the issue (and I know he doesn’t use firefox) I guess the problem is somewhere in the air over my computer. If and when it resolves, I’ll let ya know!
Thanks for all your help in trouble-shooting the issue.
