This is a short tutorial to help users run Yahoo! Messenger on the Windows Vista operating system. It’s recommended that when using Yahoo! Messenger (applies to any other programs you use) that it needs to be ran as an administrator. Naturally Windows Vista restricts actions (via User Account Control and lack of administrator privileges), so this tutorial has been made to minimize any possible issues when running Yahoo! Messenger on Windows Vista.
1) You can do this by either right clicking on the shortcut, and selecting “Run as Administrator” and it will run. But, you have to do this each time you run Yahoo! Messenger.
2) The other solution is to right click on Yahoo! Messenger’s desktop shortcut, going to Properties, going to the Compatibility tab, then checking “Run this program as an administrator” under the Privilege Level area. You may now use this shortcut to run Yahoo! Messenger as an administrator each time you run it.
Some people might argue this part may not be needed, but to ensure all registry settings are written, and that Yahoo! Messenger runs smoothly without lockups or crashes that it has admin level permissions.
