Someone here at work told me a story he saw on the tv show 911.
A little boy was getting something out of the back of the freezer and got his tongue stuck to a metal part of the ice maker. While stuck he somehow called 911 The fire dept. came and poored warm water over his tongue to free him.
I found this very unbelievable. Is this possible?..woudnt his tongue melt off after the freezer door had been left open. If anything by the heat of his body?
People argue that it is possible.
Anyone have any thoughts or theories on this?

Oh yeah? Well, someone at work told me a story about this guy that was so gullible, you could tell him the most far-fetched stories and he’d believe them!
And I think that one might be true!

Couple of people really were really arguing that it is possible. I never said i believed it, i was infact arguing against it.
I thought maybe someone had some thoughts on why this would or wouldn’t be possible.

It is possible to get your tongue stuck on some really cold metal object. Would that happen in the freezer? I’m skeptical.
Too bad “Rescue 911” is so old…. TV shows didn’t have their own web sites back then.

take a stop-watch, and a cell phone, open the freezer, lick the coldest part.
Now start the stopwatch. Oh, and dial 911.

Actually, this is what i think happened:
these two kids were playing while their mom was in the shower, and one of the kids decided he wanted ice cream. somehow he got his toungue in the freezer, and the kids brother gets so scred he calls 911.
and yes, its possible…

Yes, it is possible to get you tounge stuck on something cold and metal, and I know from personal experince. One time one of my friends dared me to lick a metal light pole and I did. My tongue got stuck, and it is very hard to get off. It’s not that is stuck really tight, it’s just stuck enough that it hurts too much to pull it off, thats why the kid couldn’t get his tounge unstuck.Oh yea, I’m not friends with that person ne more.

Or totally dumb, depends if you stayed in school long enough to sort fact from fiction.Like this thread, it serves no usefull purpose in communication, but hey, if it keeps my tongue off the freezer wall……..
