ParticipantOk, I’m losing my mind trying to fix this. Sometime between Saturday and Sunday, my computer apparently had a seizure. Saturday it was working perfectly fine, Sunday all hell started breaking loose. I changed nothing in the meantime.Sunday I booted my Dell Inspiron 8600 notebook (XP Pro), only to discover that the touchpad scroll (just running my finger down the side of my touchpad) no longer worked. No big deal. I loaded up iTunes to update my iPod, and was given an error message stating that the software required for communicating with the iPod was missing, etc etc. Then I noticed that my McAfee VirusScan no longer works. The weird thing is that the rest of my McAfee services work just fine.
I looked up the error message I got from iTunes, and found out something along the lines of IDriverT.exe not working properly. So I tried updating that, reinstalling that, trying to update some drivers, etc. Nothing has fixed the problem. I’ve run a few different diagnostic tools, from Dell and elsewhere. I’ve run my full complement of spyware/adware scanners. Nothing has turned up anything wrong.
I’m at a loss of what to do now short of formatting my hdd and starting from scratch, but i REALLY REALLY don’t want to do that. Please… ideas?? please???

Participantuninstall/reinstall iTunes, find your library XML file (somewhere in /my documnets/) and back it up, though it should save it for you. Also uninstall/reinstall your touchpad driver. You could do a windows repair, also… though it sounds like your driver library got totally borked.

ParticipantYeah… i already uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes about 5 times, got nada from that. i updated, rolled back, uninstalled, reinstalled my touchpad driver, got nada from that too. i’m currently in the process of backing up all my music and data and such.
i’m going to try a windows repair when i get home from work tomorrow… in the event that fails, i’m probably going to end up formatting and starting fresh. as much as i dont want to, i’ve done it before (on a different machine) so i know what i’m in for.

Participantwell… update. um… somehow a file was created named “C:Program” and that was apparently causing some problems. upon deleting that file, my virus scan once again works, and itunes now recognizes my ipod again.
still no joy on the touchpad, but i think i can hold off on formatting for now since two of my three problems have now been fixed.
