ParticipantA few days ago I upgraded Trillian Basic 3.0 to 3.1… seemed like all was well, until today I noticed something.
Whenever I put up an away message with multiple lines, it ignores the line spacing and just puts in
tags. Which don’t actually create breaks when viewed. I put up an away msg, then checked it from a different AIM screenname through the actual AIM client.Original Message wrote:This is line one. This is line two.
just displayed as
Quote:This is line one. This is line twoor
Quote:This is line one. This is line two
… it varied. is this just a bug that needs to be fixed before the next version, or…?
I like the new Trillian, and this isn’t a huge deal, but it’s an annoyance. I’ll just downgrade back to 3.0 if there’s no fix for it…

Participanthmmmm I haven’t used HTML tags in a long time, but let me see if I understand and I can help :p
The
tag inserts a single line break. In HTML the
tag has no end tag so it must not be properly closed, like this:
.
Example
This is line one
this is line twoThis is line one
this is line twoImportant Notes:Include a space before the trailing / and > of empty elements, e.g.
html should work fine with Trillian if you start your away message with
That’s it,hope it helps.Good luck! 🙂

Participantheh, thanks… i already know how to use html tags. (i design websites for a partial living) i tried a few different things with this, trying to figure out what was up.
i’ll start with the fact that i first used trillian’s built in awaymsg creator, and also tried using notepad then copying and pasting the text in. neither does anything.
just the break tags does nothing. they still display just as regular text, no breaks. opening the awaymsg with tags doesnt make them turn into breaks, just makes them invisible. i’m thinking this is just a bug with Trillian.

Participantwell… i decided to revert to 3.0 basic, because this bug was just too annoying. BUT…. somehow the same issue now exists with 3.0. I’m confused now… i didnt have this problem before upgrading, why should i have it now that i’m back to the original version?
I even tried deleting the whole directory after uninstalling, to get a completely clean install, but nooooooooo… help?

ParticipantMaybe it is a bug I am not sure, btw did you delete manually all the files left over after uninstalling Trillian, the problem might still be there someplace.Try that!

i can’t edit my AIM profile. that screen doesnt exist anymore. so i dunno.

ParticipantDid you try going to Trillian Preferences >> Identities and Connections, then clicking on your profile picture thing there, then click change, then on the side clicking “Biography”? I noticed that, that was another way to get to that screen.

ParticipantOh, I coulda sworn that feature was in 3.0 also, guess not. Well that stinks. I dunno what you should do now, heh maybe just decide which bug you dislike less and go with it? I hope there is an answer though, there really should be an AIM Profile thing in 3.0

ParticipantMrEggsalad wrote:there really should be an AIM Profile thing in 3.0yeah, there used to be. it used to be, click the aim icon at the bottom of my buddylist, go to personal options, then edit profile. two screens of “edit groups/interests” blah blah stuff, then the profile window. no more. that final window doesnt appear anymore. weird.
maybe i’ll just re-upgrade. or i’ll give system restore a shot.

Go with your first choice 😀 I think it is better.

Participantheh, i did. i’m back on 3.1 now. grr. so basically all that was for nothing. although away messages are still messed up. only for messages set by trillian though. i.e., friends’ away messages are still fine with multiple lines, unless they’re using trillian also.
weird. now i just wish i had the last year’s worth of logs back.

🙁 sorry!! I know how that feels, but a tip for the next time, when I am upgrading to a new version of Trillian (beta or final release) I always backup all the directory just in case.I also do that with other software just in case something goes wrong.
