Not many people realize this, but Trillian was originally created primarily as an IRC client. All the other stuff (MSN, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ) was thrown in as “extras.” Of course nowdays most people use Trillian for the “extras” and don’t even bother with IRC… but I was curious who (if anyone) out there regularly uses Trillian for IRC?
March 26, 2003 at 8:35 am #97400SlumMemberWhen Trillian first came out, it was brought up in one of the IRC channels that I talked in. I downloaded it and tested out the IRC options on the program, but I found found myself not to fond of it. Perhaps I was just stubborn :o. So to answer your question Jeff I tried it in the past, but currently do not, I use a mIRC script that I made a while ago.
March 26, 2003 at 9:35 pm #97401IndyToneMemberI tried getting used to Trillian as an IRC client, but ended up going back to MiRC. I don’t know; it’s just more comfortable to me.
April 4, 2003 at 10:46 pm #97399Zlink123MemberI don’t like Trillian as an IRC client because its not just an IRC client. It doesn’t have the IRC extras like mIRC does (a scripting language!) and its not as customizable as I would like.
April 4, 2003 at 11:15 pm #97397Jeff HesterKeymasterActually, Trillian does support scripting. Check out the scripting guidelines from the Trillian Civilians web site for more info.

August 14, 2003 at 7:48 pm #97404LadyshellbellMemberI enjoy using Trillian as my IRC client. I took a while to get use to because I used mIRC before that. But for myself it is just easier to Use trillian for IRC because I can also use all the other goodies.
August 18, 2003 at 10:25 pm #97402quietbritishjimMemberOne of the main reasons I started using Trillian is for its IRC support. I’m the first to admit it’s not a very powerful IRC program but it does have some unique features (systray alerts, skins, …) and for integration with my other chats it’s second to none 🙂
August 19, 2003 at 8:28 pm #97403onebargMemberThere are some people working on a new version of IRC for Trillian once the new SDK for 2.0 is out (since plugin writers will be able to add a new medium). I lot of the more hard-core IRC users aren’t thrilled with that aspect of Trillian so they’re working to make it better.

September 15, 2003 at 4:08 am #97406C.AhabMemberHello all,
I am trying to use Trillian fpr IRC, but, somehow, I’m just too stupid. Maybe you guys could help me a little with the config? Especialy, I can’t get the filetransfer to work.
September 29, 2003 at 8:51 pm #97407jvittandsMemberI was using Trillian for IRC, but it would randomly disconnect and reconnect fairly frequently. The other people on the channel were getting annoyed and asked me to stop. Now I use mIRC.

March 8, 2004 at 10:21 pm #97409ShadowcrestMemberI use Trillian’s IRC client a bunch. It’s really nice having it in the same program as AIM, ICQ, MSN, and YIM. I never get disconnected. It works like a charm. But I still like mIRC’s clean interface and vast array of client-side options more then Trillian’s IRC portion.
May 5, 2004 at 1:51 am #97408TrabMemberPersonal opinion, but trillian sucks as an IRC client, you cant download stuff as easily nor can you script with it, bleh….just for chatting I GUESS its ok, but I donno wat they where thinking….
