ParticipantTrillian astra fresh download/install
Upon install it told me “Failed to start. Try starting manually” or similar (didn’t write that down sorry)running trillian gives me the following error:
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. However, the UNINSTALL won’t even run, I get:
An error occurred while trying to remove Trillian. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Trillian from the Add or Remove programs list?Anyone have any idea why trillian’s kludged up? AIM itself and Miranda also give similar errors. I’ve deleted everything I could find related to aim and reinstalled with same errors, but I’m thinking there’s got to be some bad aim dll or the like hiding around somewhere maybe??
Thanks!!!

ParticipantA quick search shows this is generally a problem with your C++ libraries. Since this is happening on multiple programs – it seems very likely this is the case.
You can find the download of the C++ redistributable package on Microsoft Download here.

ParticipantHrm, tried that link still same error, trying vC++ sp1 now.
I searched pretty exhaustively, what keywords did you use to get something useful like this? That alone would help out a ton.
for what it’s worth, the system has no problems with anything else but aim and aim in other clients, I run a ton of other stuff no problem yet.
(my ghost imaged basic install saves me hours of installing on a reinstall)
Thanks! sp1 didn’t help either, but I’ll look in that direction, see what other fixes for vcc are available, at least it’s SOME direction 🙂

ParticipantActually I Googled the phrased “application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect”. It could be something different but the error does occur with that and if you poke around some of the forum threads that come up in a search it certainly seems suspect – especially if it’s happening on multiple programs.
However, it could be the AIM/Trillian connection. There could be some DLL’s or something that are missing. Is there anything further in the error code you’re getting that might give a clue. Sometimes there will be a second box with something that failed to register and it will give file names??
