Thanks to Amy for letting us know that Gaim is now available for Windows (https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1654). Just wanted to get everyone’s opinion on what they would prefer, Trillian or Gaim?
Let me know what you think!
October 27, 2002 at 8:33 am #66442AnnaParticipant1 count for Trillian here. Wait. I have big feet – does that add up to 2 counts?
I seem to prefer IMs that are simple in apperance – and simple in functionality (if that’s a real word?) as well. Prolly a reason why I don’t use ICQ a lot….
Gain is just so.. unnattractive. Of course that’s my opinion.October 27, 2002 at 10:23 am #66445PhilMemberGaim DOES look unnattractive in my opinion too…Trillian’s appearance adds style to the program in conjuction with its excellent functionality…trillian it is for me too!!!
by the way…i also have very large feet, does that mean i can have 2 votes as well ?
October 27, 2002 at 3:06 pm #66441rustedtightMemberI use Gaim on Unix so its equally familiar to me.
However as I have Gaim on Unix and Trilly on Windoze its easy to leave them as is and it helps maintain perspective, that is, where I am n what I’m using.
If you want me to vote for just one? ….Trillian.October 31, 2002 at 4:22 pm #66439Jeff HesterKeymastergaim for me. As trillian hogs too much ram. and with all the ad-ons that gaim has like logging and spell check it blows away trillian. imho. After all 100+ ad ons.. well that blows away allot of programs lol. Plus the icons by the users dont trick people into giving their passwords out to people who claim to be an aol adm.
October 31, 2002 at 10:40 pm #66444magistykMemberWell, everyone knows that you shouldn’t give out your passwords, and that AOL Staff will never ask you for it. Plus, in Trillian you have the ability to change the icons back.
November 1, 2002 at 10:32 pm #66443magistykMemberI prefer Trillian, as it has a clean interface, multiple features, and gives great Tech Support. Gaim should be kept on Unix and Linux. Spellcheck will most likely become a Plug-in or a built-in feature in the future.

July 7, 2003 at 2:05 pm #66446BrianMemberI just gave GAIM another chance. Now I think I like GAIM better than Trillian .74 and Pro. GAIM is very simple to use for me. Who needs fancy-looking client like Trillian? 🙂
EDIT – Wow. I am somewhat lost with GAIM. I think once you are on that client, you will be able to see anyone on-line on MSN even those that you put on block, and be able to send messages as if you are offline/invisible. I haven’t tried on other clients like AOL IM/AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, etc.
July 7, 2003 at 6:42 pm #66448megabitchMemberGAIM!!
gaim is faster
gaim uses less memory
gaim LOADS faster
gaim doesn’t crash
gaim looks cool
gaim can use skins toothat’s SEVEN votes for GAIM !! ahahahaha

GAIM uses GTK+ so it is theoretically slower, and indeed it feels that way to me.
Quote:quote:Originally posted by megabitchgaim uses less memory
Rubbish, for the same reason as above. With similar a skin and plugins loaded Trillian Pro is more memory efficient.
Quote:quote:Originally posted by megabitchgaim LOADS faster
Not sure about that, but seems unlikely.
Quote:quote:Originally posted by megabitchgaim doesn’t crash
Hahahahahahahahaha! That is the best thing I ever heard! The windows port of GAIM is still in its early stages and I’ve had it crash in the add buddy wizard (reproducably) before I even get the first viewing of the contact list after install. GAIM is far less stable than trillian.

gaim can use skins tooGAIM’s look is horrific! It uses GTK+ which is slow and pants, it doesn’t have metacontacts so your contact list is disorganised, it doesn’t have as many skins and they’re ridiculously feeble in comparison to trillian’s, and the list goes on and on and on…
There, that’s just as many votes in favour of trillian! Plus trillian has more features and a better communty, there’s two more. I reckon you’ve been banned from the trillian forums under another name and you’re trying your feeble best to get revenge.
I vote Trillian!
July 17, 2003 at 10:59 am #66451terrylaneMemberDitto. Trillian! I use As-U-Type (http://www.asutype.com) for spell checking. Gaim’s just ugly.
–terryJuly 17, 2003 at 2:31 pm #66450BookieMemberI’ve recently tried GAIM but I still like Trillian Pro better.
July 23, 2003 at 10:35 pm #66452Warri0r 7MemberWell, my opinion is Trillian is better than Gaim!
August 6, 2003 at 10:56 pm #66449EvanMembertrillian because i cant get gaim to work
