July 26, 2003 at 7:24 pm #58520Someguy03MemberI hope that the site administrator removed the trojan because when i downloaded it my norton anti-virus didnt detect it.
Update: Does anyone have any good ways to get rid of the virus besides running a full system scan?

Congratulations at yet another wasted post. Please read the previous posts more carefully before replying.
Thanks for the warning, WhiteMateria!
July 27, 2003 at 12:10 am #58519DavidParticipantThis is a good example of why you should only download what you absolutely need to have.
I just reinstalled my Operating System (MS Windows XP Professional Edition). My old OS was so full of viri and spy-ware that it slowed the system down considerably. I downloaded so many games and programs that I didn’t need and some were infected.
I now only have 8 or 9 programs on my system (AIM, DeadAIM, MSN6, OfficeXP, SmartFTP, Araneae, Nero Express, Norton 2003, and Java), It runs fast for an Athlon 1.3ghz (512MB RAM).
Always be careful what you download — if your not, you’ll get burned.
July 27, 2003 at 8:28 am #58523JabarooMemberI agree with David on same cases.
Unfortuantely I never stick with his rule of d/l only what you need 😛 I always seem to find something else, and lucky me usually gets a hard time deleting the program. Needless to say I’ve been reinstalling my puter a lot :-/
But thanks to, WhiterMateria for the warning. I’ve never been to the site myself, and wont be going there in the near future me thinks.

November 20, 2003 at 4:12 am #58525deathringMemberWhiteMateria,
You are correct (in this thread and in another) that we did not remove the trojaned files.
This is because Symantec Anti Virus (the corporate edition of which does now detect the trojans) was unable to ‘clean’ the files. In other words, the trojan aspect of the files was integral to their nature. Thus, it appears that the programmer of the files was responsible for the trojan. This hypothesis would also account for the fact that I find no other versions of the file on the net.
Although we did not remove the files (because they are functional, in spite of their undesired trojan-ness), we did put up notices on every file that you pointed out as being trojanned.
Your e-mail to me (James) was appreciated. (The ‘ugh’ was meant to be an ‘ugh… I can’t believe I didn’t detect the virus,’ not an ‘ugh… why are you telling me this’.) If you or anyone else has further questions/comments/rants on Death Ring, feel free to contact me.
January 4, 2004 at 1:31 am #58524deathringMemberWhiteMateria, I would appreciate some sort of response since I took action to resolve your complaints…
