MemberSo, I received a “please come try AOL again” thing in the mail since I’ve used the free trials a few times in the past for various reasons, so this was not a surprise. I grabbed it to just read it because it looked very non-AOLish. I when I held it, it felt very odd, looked like it’s about 3/4 of an inch thick, and was the size of a dvd case. I heard the cd moving around in the inside, and it was obviously not held in place by anything, and it sounded weird when it hit the edges. I squeezed it and it was pretty stiff, so I tore off the cellophane and opened it up…it was a very nicely made WOODEN case, with 45degree angle cut edges that met very, very flush when closed, and it makes a very nice sound.
SO…I made it a long story because it really caught me off guard. It’s such a badass case that I want more! So keep your eye out for one in the mail, and don’t just toss it, because you might really like it as well.
I’ll try and get some pictures of it up soon, and I’ll take some high-res ones of the cuts so you can see it. I think it’s made of pine, because of it’s smell…yes, I smelled the case 😉 So yeah, it’s the most badass “join aol” thing I’ve ever seen and almost want to call the PR people and tell them how cool it is, but I really don’t want them to decide to send me more things in the mail, unless it’s more of these 😀

MemberYeah, I’ve gotten some of these as well. It is a “bad ass” case. I use it to hold money and stuff. It really is sturdy and secure.

Keymasteri’ve seen that case in the mail. i regret signing up for AOL in the past. in recent months they have stopped sending me these “please join again” CDs. what i’ve noticed about AOL’s marketing scams these days is that they seem to have more TV advertisements than CD mailers. i’m guessing they are cheaper than those cool wooden cases. for a while they sent CDs wrapped in paper and plastic. i guess the more members they lose to other ISPs (and to broadband) the less they feel the need (it’s worthless to them i guess) to bring them back. CDs and cases must cost a lot of money. TV advertisements seem to be aimed at new members. they’ve given up on me. wo HO! i also noticed that the number in the TV commercial is 1-866-NEED-AOL (for some reason that’s funny to me.)

ParticipantAwesome! I would like to have one of these cases. Just a few days ago I got an AOL CD, and it came in a big blue plastic case like a DVD case. Since I never use put these CDs in my computer, I use them as frisbees or coasters to set my drinks on.

I played the “AOL frisbee game” at a birthday party once. We all brought about 2 AOL CD’s and started throwing them as frisbees. It was one of the funnest games I ever played! 😀July 30, 2005 at 8:19 pm #126853Hurricane22491
MemberI received one of those cases a long time ago, and I’ve never seen another one since. They are nice though.

KeymasterThey always send nice cases to me. I always keep the cases, and throw away the cd. That’s all AOL is good for. *heh heh*

ParticipantWow, that is a pretty nice looking case, wonder what it costs AOL to make those, then send them out for free.

MemberSpeaking of annoying AOL cd’s, I love this particular commercial for them. The commercial is not from AOL, but rather some other kind of broadband or cable company. Anyway, this couple receives an AOL cd in the mail, and one says to the other, “Honey, it’s arrived!” And the couple is so excited, they run over to their wall and add the cd to the collage, which happens to be a fish of many different colors of the different cds. I love it!
But no, I haven’t seen a wooden cd case. Put up those pictures!

ParticipantThere are pictures on the site where you can buy them… but since I am in a semi-good mood.
