Hey everyone, I have not seen this one posted before….and as you may (or may not) know; I look before I post. I was cleaning out some old names from my accounts…but only one of them seemed to have a problem today. It may have been that I accessed it through my phone (which is something I’ll post separately with a separate prob.)….but when I went to the pc to log in my messenger froze at where it said “I’m available” at the bottom and there was just blank white where the names should be. So I pulled up all the running progs. and lo and behold, messenger was frozen. So I closed out of it and tried again… I did this a few times…at one point I had to shut down the PC b/c suddenly it said I was “dangerously low on resources” which made no sense since I had just started it up. I had to restart a couple of times (My OS is ME by the way). I finally tried another account…no problems at all. Then I logged into the troublesome account with YahELite…and I was informed of two mail messages. I went to the mail, read them, then logged out of YahELite and tried to go onto the main account again…and it worked…but there was still something strange about it. Any hypothesis on this one??
June 16, 2003 at 4:15 pm #61347freddyMemberI’ve had similar, although not as severe as this. I have a Yahoo! account I use just for testing things, and I use the e-mail address on that account to access services which I know are just going to spam and spam the email address.
Whenever I log onto messenger with that ID, it takes forever to sign in, then it always gets the yahoo! mail status wrong. The account is over quota on e-mail, and yahoo! messenger states anywhere from 0 messages, to 1000.
It’s possibly its still not the mail, maybe there was an offline message coming in, yahelite took it because messenger didn’t?
It sure is strange, and I don’t have a full answer.
June 16, 2003 at 5:00 pm #61344OreoMemberOriginally, I thought it might be a wayward offline message…but there were no offlines when I logged into YahELite or finally when I got into messenger. This is the account I use most often and the one that I use for the majority of my mail. It is attached to a non-English Yahoo! (Could this be the trouble??) I am still playing with it to see if it happens again. Thanks for the help Freddy!

either way….. its POSSIBLE you were flirting with disaster on yahoo….
they have set some strong filters in place to stop spam bots…. and it is catching people who are editing buddy lists…… and a few editing aliases….or heck. could have been the cookie ~ or could have been yahoo….
could have been accessing via phone….
it reminds me of folks who make a new id then cant see it…. a reboot often fixes… or folks who delete an alias yet still see it.. dunno….. am asking around…..June 17, 2003 at 2:26 pm #61343OreoMemberAs far as the names, they were “friends” that I had added long ago and I really don’t talk to any longer. I wanted to make sure that I did so AFTER I no-buddied them. But I did this on more than one account so the only thing different with that particular account (besides the friends on it) is the phone access thing. So you think that might have something to do with it? Thanks for asking around, I appreciate it!
June 17, 2003 at 4:14 pm #61346freddyMemberAs there was no ban (you could still login yahelite) I doubt anything nhyrvana said applied.
It could be that it got sent something it just couldn’t handle, maybe something special used on the phone service. Maybe until it took the data, it wouldn’t work, and yahelite just took and ignored data like it always does. Then going into messenger worked because it was no longer being sent foreign information that it can’t understand.
