I know there may be a few of you out there…
I’ve setup a co-tweet account for BigBlueBall. Right now, most of the tweets from @bigblueball are sent automatically via TwitterFeed, using the RSS feeds for the homepage news stories (did you see yesterday’s story?) and the feed for the forum posts.
The PROBLEM with this is that when the forum spam hits (i.e. “How to burn DVD, blah-blah-blah…”), TwitterFeed automatically tweets the excerpt and a link to the post (which we promptly delete, as soon as we see’em). I really don’t want that **** getting out into the twittersphere.
So long story short, I’m looking at making @bigblueball completely human-driven, but not just my tweets — anyone on the BBB staff can tweet. And it shouldn’t necessarily just be stuff about BBB, but it could be anything that might be of interest to others on BBB. It can include links to your own blog posts, news, fun stuff, pics…. whatever! Just something more personal and crap-free than the twitterfeed is currently serving up.
So besides me (Jeff’s better-looking, smarter alter-ego), who else uses Twitter?
Oh yeah, Co-Tweet is also integrating with Facebook fan pages, so we’ll soon be able to use the same site to keep tabs on tweets, responses, FB posts, and send updates to all through co-tweet. Nice, eh?

September 26, 2010 at 8:30 pm #177026Jeff HesterKeymasterWould you be interested in tweeting interesting forum topics, news, blog posts, etc. thru the @bigblueball account?
September 26, 2010 at 10:25 pm #177032Doris KenneyParticipantSure. I don’t mind. Will valid post topics be pushed out this way?

September 26, 2010 at 11:25 pm #177027Jeff HesterKeymasterWell, that’s the idea. Since ONLY people will be pushing out tweets, they should be valid (i.e. no more dvd-converter spam that gets deleted).
September 27, 2010 at 12:09 pm #177031Doris KenneyParticipantI’m in. Send me some of the details on how this Co-Tweet thing works.
September 27, 2010 at 7:00 pm #177029FanaticMemberI sent you an invitation to co-manage the @bigblueball account. I’ll change the avatar associated with it, and we should probably create a custom background for the Twitter page (although the format is changing).
I’m trying to figure out how to turn OFF the damned twitterfeed thing. I can’t remember my account info, and the process has changed since I originally signed up. I should have that cleared up later today.
Co-Tweet is managed through a web interface. It’s kinda nice, because you can include your personal Twitter account(s), easily see mentions and DMs, etc. Oh, and you can schedule future tweets. Nice for reminders.
September 27, 2010 at 10:15 pm #177033Doris KenneyParticipantOK, I can access it. I’ll probably only use it for BBB stuff but that’s fine. I’ll give it a bit more attention a little later when I can focus on figuring it out. Doesn’t look too complicated.
September 29, 2010 at 8:54 am #177028Jeff HesterKeymasterI still haven’t been able to turn the twitter feed off! Argh. I’ll keep you posted. Meanwhile, feel free to tweet away!
October 1, 2010 at 5:44 am #177030FanaticMemberFinally turned the Twitter feed off (just for the forum posts). Now when new posts go up on the front page, those get tweeted, but not the forum posts (which is where all the video encoder spam shows up).
If you want to tweet a forum post to stir up participation, feel free! Please give it a test run to make sure it’s working right for you.
