Okay.. so heres my story. My old (regular) router always disconnected me.. So I told my mom to go to Office Depot and try to find a new router.. she came back with a WIRELESS router.. I have it working now and thats what I’m on now.. List some of the problems with wireless routers so I know kinda what to maybe expect from it.
THe connection can get disabled because someone decides to pull a plug…if you for some strange reason have a neighbor with a wireless internet connection it may try to connect to two wireless connections at once. That doesnt work so you have to boot one off in the properties. You should also make sure when you set it up you do not click anything twice because you might set up a “fake” internet connection that your computer tries to connect to, then it will connect back to the real one and so on.
Oh and one thing I found out. I was watching a webcam on Yahoo! and the signal strength went to 4% and knocked me off.. I guess wireless router connections can’t handle streaming webcam?

Sure they can, but interference, and your distance away from the Wireless Access Point can effect your connection strength.
Its not interference lol.. the other comp is on the next wall.. about 5 feet away. The signal strength is always 80-95% and when I view a webcam it goes to 4% and disconnects AIM and everything.
Wireless routers can be knocked out if you have a 2.4 GHz wireless phone. You would have to reset your router if that happens. That’s why I stick with the wires.
I havent been disconnected yet.. Just from the streaming webcam.. otherwise I can stay on as long as I want without any problem.
Too many things being sent/received might clow down your computer. I’ve had the same problem when my signal is excellent, and webcams never work. Some other problem may be, the farther away you want to be from the modem (to get away from people) the slower the signal strength, so you cant leave and have good internet. Wires tho you can’t go anywhere.
