Participantthe best set of speakers is a set of non-computer speakers. meaning, find yourself a decent stereo system and run your computer’s audio out to that. i’ve got my audio running out to my Panasonic stereo (which is actually pretty old by now, i think these speakers are about 8+ years old) which I had powering a pair of Sony floor-standing speakers (which have since been relegated to the living room sound system). Eventually I’m looking to get an actual stereo deck to use, but it’s not high on my priority list at the moment.
So moral of my story is… don’t order computer speakers. Use a regular stereo and get a y-adapter cable (from standard speaker plug to RCA plugs) to run from the computer to the stereo.

MemberHere’s my “computer speakers”, and I use that term loosely because of the sheer fact that you could use these as home theater speakers if you so desired (hell, they’re THX certified!). I love ’em, and haven’t had one issue with them at all. Sound quality is excellent.
Logitech z-5300e 5.1 Surround Sound System
They retail for $200, but at Newegg, they’re cheaper (last I checked).

What’s wrong with Intel? I believe they have the worlds best processors out right now.

MemberIf you ever want $150 speakers again, I have had Klipsch 2.1 ProMedia for a little over 4 years and love them. Mine aren’t the GMX series and I haven’t ever done a side-by-side audio comparison with the GMX. The output power is impressive and even cranks my headphones (Sennheiser HD-570) close to their max with clean power, which is very impressive. I’ve never plugged into any other computer setup with my headphones and been nearly as satisfied as plugging into the headphone port on my Klipsch set.
These are my set:
